Researching: WEITZEN, VAICEN, VAC, WEICEN
I am from Bondi, Australia. I'm researching for my paternal ancestors named Weitzen (or, possible Vaicen - in Chech/Slovak transcription). My late father Joseph Weitzen from Randvanka, near Uzhgorod, told me his grandfather and father were from Ticha, now in Czech Republic. Originally this name comming from Vac (Weicen - in German). Many people of this family emigrated to U.S. in middle of last century, but some of them still were dispersed on Eastern side of former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Any hint of research direction will be deeply appreciated. They are Jewish faith.

I am looking for information on my maternal grandparents. They came from the Prague area, separately. My grandmother, whose name is Mary Lucy Mihalic (not sure of spelling) came over to U.S.A. as a child and remembered little. She does remember coming from farm area near Prague, but that is all. She was born there in 22 November 1899. Her parents names are John Mihalic (not definate on spelling) born about 1860 and Mary Magdalena Cana born about 1863, they had 5 children, Sophie, Francis, Mary (my grandmother), Elizabeth, and Anna. They left Czechoslovakia around 1906 by freighter. My grandfather, Charles or Carl Gvuzd (Americanized, is spelled Gouzd), was born in the Prague area about 1885 and his father's name was Frank Gvuzd, born around 1860 and his mother's name was Louisa Piskor (not sure of spelling) and she was born around 1864. Frank Gvuzd raised horses for the army (probably Austria-Hungary at that time) and Louisa ran a hotel/resturant. They had money until he started loosing his eyesight and spent it on trying to recover it. They had 4 children, Marie, who was said to be a concentration camp survivor, Charles or Carl, my grandfather, Frank, Louis, and Tofel. Marie and Tofel stayed in Czech Republic and the last address I have for Marie is Marie Liskova, U lipy 13, 71600 Ostrava-Radvanice CSSR. I hope you can help me locate more information on these people. I know that my great grandfather, Joseph Tatar was born on 19 March 1869 in probably the Rodakya or Rosnava area. His wife was Helen Urban, born on March 1879 and her parents were Stephen Urban and Nora Hirschmer, they lived around Krasna Harka Rodakya Harkararalya (probably Rosnava) I am not certain not knowing the area myself. Joseph and Helen Tatar had 5 children. Joseph Valentine (my grandfather), Michael, Paul, Margaret, and Emily. The emigrated to U.S.A. on the ship Slavonia on 27 May 1909. If you have more information to give me on further ancestory, it would be greatly appreciated.
