Researching: ZIDKA
I am looking for any information on the surname Zidka. Anne Julia Zidka was
my great - grandmother and her parents were Bohemian. The father Zidka died
1/4/1902 and the mother Zidka died 8/9/1884 according to writings in an old
Catholic prayer bible written in a Slovic language? I believe they were from
Michigan when they first came to th U.S. Grandma said that her mother was an
orphan. Anne was born - 7/26/1873 and was mostly raised by an older brother?
Any help would be most appreciative. Thanks.

Researching: FUKNA, FUKUA, KRAUSS
The last name of my paternal grandmother from Bohemia. She was born Agnes in
January of 1898 and came to New York City around 1912. She had two sisters, one
of whom was Mary. She married in New York City to a musician, John J. Krauss
and had four sons. They moved to New Jersey around 1920. Family records show
her last name as either Fukna or Fukua and lists her birthplace as Austria.
She apparently was Bohemian, but would not speak of her hometown or homeland,
even to her sons. She spoke and was literate in German and was Roman Catholic,
although we are not sure if that was her religion in her homeland. She did not
keep any papers she may have needed in order to come to the U.S.
We are not sure if the spelling of her last name is correct, so anything that
may sound similar may lead us in the right direction. Please help!

Researching: VONASEK, SLADEK, BENDA
I am interesed in the villages of Cecho Terrasos and Ktivociat,
Bohemia. My great grandfather and grandmother were born in these
villages respectively. I do not know anymore of my family at this
point or before. I do not know of any brothers or sisters of my great grandfather
Frank Vonasek. The following is quoted from our family tree being
developed: Frank Vonasek was born in Cecho Terrasos, Bohemia. His father
was killed in a logging accident, so Frank learned the carpenter
trade at an early age to support his mother and sisters. At the
age of sixteen, he left his homeland for America. The Journey
across the Atlantic Ocean took seventeen weeks. He settled in
Chicago, Illinois. While there he married Josefa (Josephine)
Sladek. Josefa was born in the village of Ktivociat, Bohemia.
At age of thirteen, she came to America with her parents, Mister
and Mrs. James Sladek. Frank and Josefa, with their three children, Jaroslav (George),
Bohumila (Millie), and Otakar (Otto) traveled by train to Yankton,
South Dakota, Crossed the Missouri river on the ferry, then by wagon
and oxen to the little Czech settlement at Pischeville, Nebraska.
Here a claim was taken and a log cabin built. (The land is still
in the family, now owned by Virgil Vonasek).
Six more children were born here. Zdenek, Vlasta, Ladik (Lad),
Milos, Olga, and Bohus (Bob, my grandfather). The boys would hire
out to herd cattle, and the girls to do housework.
My own grandmother's name was Elizabeth (Benda), she was born in
Misouri, the location I do not know.

mother, Ann Wittman Meseth was born in Trentschin, Vaztinek Letacsia,
Czechoslovakia. I have her birth certificate, which was translated by a
neighbor. My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Latsko / Latzko and I do
not know where she was born or anything else about her. My mother always
told me that her family never talked about any family in Europe. Cathrine
Pollach was Samuel Wittman's mother. Do these towns still exist and if so
what country are they in at this time. All of the above named are
deceased. Any help would be appreciated.
