Researching: RIEMER, SCHITKY, SIEGEL, MAURAL, HANISH
I am interested in any information on anyone from Kratzau - now Chrastava
Czech Republic. The names I am researching are Riemer, Schitky, Siegel,
Maural, and Hanish.
We believe John Riemer m. Anna Siegel (b. 20 Aug 1814 in Kratzau, died 18
Nov. 1890 in Grand Rapids Michigan). John was probably dead before Anna came
to the US with her son Josef Riemer and daughter Mary Riemer Andersch. Josef
Riemer (B. 20 Aug. 1840 in Kratzau died 6 Dec. 1876 in Grand Rapids) was a
furniture worker. He married Anna Theresa Schitky, (b. 16 Oct. 1840 Grottau
Bohemia, d. 8 Feb. 1888 Grand Rapids). They were married in Bohemia and
moved to Grand Rapids Michigan in 1866? We have an autograph book of names
written the summer they left Bohemia.
Many Kratzau natives moved to Grand Rapids, at the behest of Dr. Wenzel
Blumrich. Prior to the Riemers moving, it is believed that the Andersch's and
the Siegel, and perhaps the Schitky's were living in Grand Rapids. Many of
these families lived together when they moved to the US. They were
considered quite accomplished in music, being bandleaders, music teachers,
and travelling to Austria every few years for music lessons. The Riemers may
have owned a musical instrument factory in Bohemia.
Not much is known of the Siegels, other than they had more money than the
others, and it is purported that they left Bohemia because they were afraid
for their lives???? All were Roman Catholic.
Any information you can provide will be appreciated.

Researching: TRUITNER, TREUTNER, WINKLER, SCHAFFAN,
HEIKE, UNZEITIG
My grandfather Joseph Lewis Truitner came to Mankato, Blue Earth,
Minnesota in 1880, he was four years old. He came with his mother
Rosalia (then spelled Treutner)and two sisters Maria (known as Merry) and
Caroline (known as Carrie. Rosalia Truitner's maiden name was Winkler.
Mr. Truitner (Rosalia husband) we think died in Vienna, Austria and
Joseph my have been born there too. Rosalia Winkler was born 24 June
1853. Rosalia (Winkler) Truitner then married Franz Schaffan in Mankato, Mn.
1881. We found from the records from SS Peters & Pauls Church in Mankato that
Rosalia Winkler's parents were Johann Winkler and Rosalia Heike. Johann
Winkler was born abt.1821 and Rosalia Heike was born 2 Feb 1825.
Rosalia Heike was married a second time after Johann Winkler died. She
married a man named Johann Unzeitig and lived until her death in
Mankato, Minnesota.
We believe that Johann Winkler may have died in Austria for we have
found no records in Mankato for him.
We are not exactly sure where our Winkler, Truitner and Heike are from
but we have reason to believe that they may have been from either Ceska
Trebova, Bohemia, Czechoslovakia or Muglitz, Olmotz, Mahren,
Czechoslovakia. When they lived there it was Austria and not
Czechoslovakia for the boarders changed after they came to the USA.

right? My great grand mother was a widow with 4 children, her maiden
name was Karnac she came over with all the children alone and the boys names
were Andrew and John. There were also 2 girls. Her first name was

Here is your odd one for the day. A friend of mine was adopted, and had
been looking for her roots for some time.
So for Christmas, I thought I would do some surfing and see what I could
find. I think I found her birth mother on the SSDI index page. We know
that her birth mother was Ann Dolansky, and was in NY in 1954. The story
that was pased down was that her mother was in her upper 20's when she
had Jayne. Well the Ann I found would have been 28 years old in 1954 and
had a New York social security number.
Is my hunch right that Dolansky is a Czech name. There appears to be
very few people with this name! Would be happy for any suggestions,
information, or what ever.

Researching: FIALA, SCHOR, MAYER, STEPANOVSKA
Am trying to trace ancestors from bits & pieces of information I picked
up over the years from my now deceased father & uncles. My father's
side of the family came from Oslovany, Moravia, about 20 miles south of
Brno. My grandfather Francisek (Frank) Fiala emigrated to the United
States about 1904/5 with a wife Marie (Schor) Fiala and one son, Frank,
Jr. They first settled in a mining town in Pennsylvania near Greensburg
(Crows Nest) where my father Joseph Stephen was born. Somehow the
family moved to a farm in Conneaut, Ashtabula County, Ohio about 1912.
My grandmother's brothers Raymund Schor and Ernest Schor came about 1920
to Ohio. They also moved to farms in Conneaut. I am told that my
grandfather Francisek had a brother Josef that also came with him to
"Amerika." My father only remembered that he stayed with them for
"awhile" and being single decided to go "out west" to work on the
railroad, but have I have never been able to pin down a year. Anyone
who may have corresponded with him has long since passed on. I have a
old copy of the marriage certificate of my grandparents which as best I
can read that Francisek Fiala, son of Josefcik(?) Fiala of Oslovany,
Moravia married Marie Schor of Oslovany, Moravia. In addition, my dad's
oldest brother once told me that there were four sisters who remained in
Oslovany. Francisek Fiala was born about 1874. Possibly, but not
necessarily, his brother would have been slightly older, as he bore his
father's first name. We have kept the name Joseph in our family lineage,
and I often wonder what happened to my great-uncle.
Also, I have learned from a cousin that his father (and my grandmother's
brother) Raymund Jan Schor (father = Jan Schor; mother = Frantiska Rozena
Poz Arova) of Oslavany was married to Amelia Mayer (father=Frantisek
Mayer; mother=Terezie Stepanovska (?) of Oslavany, and these families
apparently were next door neighbors in that town. Any help to adding
pieces to this family puzzle would be appreciated.

Researching: TVRDY
I live in Anchorage, Alaska. I was born in
Buhl, Idaho and raised on a farm. I am trying to back trace my granddad
Thomas (Tomas) Tvrdy who was born in Pesik, Czech, migrated to Dickerson,
ND and the to Buhl, Idaho. I established that he had at least one brother
and two sisters. I have located several Tvrdy's outside of Buhl, Idaho
which may or may not be related. One would think that a name like Tvrdy
would be easy to trace, however, the name doesn't seem to appear in any of
the sources I've checked into. Any help would be appreciated.

Researching: ZAVESKY
I am trying to find out more information about the Zavesky families that
settled in Cleveland Ohio from 1869-1900. They came from Bohemia and I am
trying to locate the place as well as other information about the family. My
great grandfather came to the US in 1868 and settled in Cleveland. He left
Cleveland in 1878 and moved with his family to Ellsworth County Kansas. He
had 2 brothers (Frank and James) and other relatives living in Cleveland when
he died in 1915. Some of the relatives were tailors. When I look at the
censuses for Cleveland, I find 10 Zavesky families that came to the US from
1869-1900 and most of the families had members that were tailors. I believe
that some of these families were relatives.
