Researching: PAPIERNIK, CURD, KURATHAWSKI, SLATIVINSKI, LESZCZYNSKI, BAROWSKI
I am looking for my mother-in-law's, Joanne Papiernik Hankcock, family. When she was very young she was in an orphanage so we are looking for any one whom may know any thing. Her mother was Theresa Papiernik (born in 1924), and her father's name was Stanely (now deceased). Theresa may be adutill. The names of her children are Joanne, Teresa, Teddy, Michael, Stanely, Stella, Bridget (Barbra) and we believe there are more. We are also looking for her cousins, aunts and uncles: Stella Curd, who married Richard Kurathawski; Marrianne Curd, who married Stanely Slativinski; Helen Curd; Frances Leszczynski; John Leszczynski and his wife Tessie Papiernik as well as Theresa and Joe Barowski. I am searching for any information about family of Martin Challan, b.1853, from Vyoska, Trencin County of Slovakia who came to America in 1872 and founded Challan & Co. He was a wire tinker or drotar by profession. He also helped organize St. Matthew's Slovak Catholic Society, Branch 45 of the First Catholic Slovak Union of the United States and Canada. Helped found the Roman Catholic Slovak Parish of St. John Nepomucene on First Ave and 66th St in New York City. Married to Anna Planeta.

Researching: ELKO, PAYTAS, DROBNAK, JOPKO
All four of my grandparents immigrated to the United States from what is now Slovakia around 1900. My maternal grandparents were Josef Elko, (Illyko), and Elizabeth Paytas. My paternal grandparents were John Drobnak and Anna Jopko. Josef Elko and family lived in Donora, Pennsylvania until about 1925, then moved to Trenton, New Jersey. John Drobnak and family lived in Trenton, New Jersey. My mother, Elizabeth Elko, was born in 1912. She had 2 sisters, Anna Elko born in 1909, and Margaret Elko, born about 1916. All 3 sisters were born in Donora, PA, but later moved to New Jersey. My father, George Drobnak, was born in 1909 in Trenton, New Jersey. He had an older brother, John, and 2 older sisters, Anna and Helen. Is anyone else researching these families? Does anyone have any information that will help me? Thanks.

Researching: VODILKA, MANCOS
We are researching the Vodilka and Mancos families. Anna Mancos, born about 1879 in Slovakia appears on the 1920 census for Pocahontas, Virginia. Since she became a citizen in 1883, we believe her parents (Vodilka) came to the United States between 1879 -1883. Anna's husband, Joseph Mancos, was born in Czechoslovakia and is listed on the immigrant Wall of Honor at Ellis Island. We believe he died between 1903 and 1910. By 1910, Anna was a 31 year old widow with 3 children: Andrew,9; Steve,7; Mary, 10 and 4 step-children; Mike, Joe, John and Genevieve. Genevieve, born in 1892, was a nun in Alabama for over 70 years.

Researching: STUPKE, VONGEI, SALING
I would like information concerning my grandparents,Josef and Marie Stupke (born Vongrei), who came from the village of Mikulas in Slovakia. They immigrated to the US around 1901 and had one daughter born in Slovaka, named Margaret (American spelling). There was a relative living in that village by the name of Emil Stupka. He lived on Hurbanova, 10, Liptovsky, Mikulas in Slovakia. I do not know if he lives there still. Also, another relative named Daniel Saling, Vysoka 27, Bratislava, Slovakia who was a Baptist pastor and may be still living. I would appreciate any help you can give me! Thank you!

Researching: BURAS, PRIESZOL, BURAKOVA, PALKO
I am looking for my mother's birth record. Maria Burakova, my great grandmother, is buried in the Presov Cemetery. My Grandmother, Maria Buras, b. June 1896 in Presov, married Jozef Pauko Prieszol on 10 October 1910 in St. Nicholas Church, Presov. Jozef immigrated to the United States in 1910. Maria Buras Prieszol had a daughter, my mother, on13 May 1912. Maria Buras & daughter, also named Maria Buras, immigrated to the United States in 1914. They are identified on the passenger list as Maria Palko and Maria, 22 months old. Jozef used the name Joseph Palko in the United States and my grandmother became Maria Palko; my mother, Mary Josephine Palko. My mother never had a birth record or certificate. I cannot understand how Joseph could be my mother's father if he had immigrated in 1910. Towns listed are Also-slecs and Haromslecs.

Researching: SOKOL, FELLIGI
I am interested in the surname Sokol. My grandfather came from what was at the time Austria-Hungary, now Slovakia, and was born in Bardejov or Upper Bardejov according to a copy of his birth certificate. His mother's maiden name was Felligi which is a Hungarian name. He was born there around 1889 and came to this country in the early 1900's and settled in the Wilkes-Barre region of Pennsylvania. Supposedly he had a few brothers who may have immigrated to Australia. If anyone has any information about the Sokols in Bardejov or any information in general on the town or area it would be greatly appreciated.

I trace my g grandfather back to Schonviz, Saros, Hungary (today Krasna Luka, Saris, Slovakia). My g grandfather was Paulus Marusa. He was married 3 times to Maria Prisztas, Catharina Stach, Susanna Podsedly. He had 8 children by the 1st, 4 by the second, and 8 by the third. My grandfather was last child of the 3rd. My gr-grandfather, Jozsef Szendrei, emigrated from Karcag, Szolnok, Hungary in 1911 with his second wife, Erzsebet Sebok and their five children (two more children were born in Canada). Jozsef Szendrei's siblings were: Maria, Antal, Mathias, Imre, Klara, Paulus, Istvan, Maria and Elizabeth. Jozsef Szendrei's first wife was Rosalia Puskas. Researching: ZIPKO, ZUPKO, SABOL
Looking for info on surnames Zipko or Zupko and Sabol. They are my granparents from Vranov. Michael Zipko was a broom salesman who came to the US around 1895 or so. He supposedly gave lots of land to the Catholic church. He was married in Vranov around 1887 to Mary Sabol. He returned a few times to Slovakia and came back to the US in 1901. I am searching for ancestors of people by the name of Andrasczyk originally and then changed to Andrascik who lived in Lipowiec or Loipovce (Saris County) Slovakia. This may have been part of Austria? The relatives here in America immigrated to this country around 5/29/1910. The head of the household that immigrated to American was named Walent Andrasczyk (DOB 2/14/1889), later changed to William Andrascik. He married Anna Heizer (Heiser) (DOB 5/15/1893) and settled in Wilkes Barre, PA USA. Any information that you can give to me will be greatly appreciated.
