He was involved with the wedding from the engagement through the end of the reception, acting as the representative of the bridegroom. Sometime even acting as spokesman for the grooms family in the asking of the bride's hand in marriage.

The starosta was the organizer of the wedding and had a special place of honor at the wedding.

If you look at the photograph of the Walkosak - Sevachko Wedding, 1929 in America, you will find the starosta, Josef Stanislav, seated second from the left in the front row. In the "Kopchak - Stanislav Wedding in 1948, the starosta, Jack Stanislav, is back row, far right.

The starosta was master of ceremonies for the reception. He would begin the party by introducing the bride and groom and welcoming all to the reception. His job was to offer an opening toast and then lead the festivities and songs.

The starosta would lead the Bridal Dance at the conclusion of the wedding.

The staraosta had an even greater role in the wedding customs in the old country.
