Researching: SCHIKANEDER, BRINKMANN
My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Elizabeth Schikaneder. She came to the US from Czechoslovakia early in the 20th century. I am told that she was a performer with the Czech circus. She married Guido Brinkmann. I'm not sure if that was before or after entering the US. This was her second marriage. Apparently the name Schikaneder is uncommon in the US. Any information that you could provide would be extremely helpful. Thank you for help in this matter.

Researching: KALISEK, LASLAVIC
All that I know about my Great Grandfather is (i) his name "Thomas Kalisek", (ii) the year in which he was born "1844" (this piece of data from his tombstone in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), and (iii) the fact that I've been told that he owned a grocery store on the Northside section of Pittsburgh, which was then called "Allegheny, Pennsylvania". It IS possible that my Great Grandfather was born in the USA; but I think that he was born somewhere in Bohemia. [None of his earlier ancestors are buried in the family plot; so I do believe that it was he, and not his father (my great great grandfather) who was born in Bohemia and subsequently came over on a boat (when?) and settled in the Pittsburgh-area.] My Great Grandfather's daughter Anna Kalisek married Mihael Laslavic (a man who was born in 1869 in the town of Bosiljevo, Croatia) in the late 1890s or early 1900s. They were married in Pittsburgh and lived in Pittsburgh (then Allegheny, PA) on East Ohio Street initially, but they (Mihael and Anna) soon moved to Ley Street in the "Troy Hill" section of town. I know that there is not much information to go on here, but I am curious if anybody out there in Internet-land knows anything about Thomas Kalisek (born 1844), my Great Grandfather? Can anybody give me some idea as to where I should go to find some information out about him?
