They burned everything they got from there and would not talk about it, if you asked they would say not to worry about it. We know he had Brothers and sisters he never saw one of them, and where he lived but that's all and his dad's name was John who had the John I'm talking about as kid who had a John for a kid, that is my grandpa. Researching: PODZIMEK, KOTRBA, PULKRAB
Are we related? I know very little about my heritage! I do know that my Grandfather, Josef Podzimek was born in 1856 and married Mary [Marie] Kotrba in 1884. On 5 May 1886 a son, Josef S. was born to them. Shortly after his birth they came to the United States from the vicinity of Tabor in what is now the Czech Republic. They lived in Baltimore Md. for a short while, then came to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on 20 Sept. 1891 my father, Frank Vaclav was born to them, here in Cedar Rapids. They had two more children, Blanch Mary on 2 Oct. 1893 and Ralph on12 March 1896. Grandmother died in 1898, two years after Ralph was born. Grandfather died 5 years later on 12 Mar 1903, leaving the children orphans. I do know that Grandfather had at least one brother and one sister in Czechie. I, Frank Thomas, am 72 years old, I was born here in Cedar Rapids. My mother's maiden name was Rose Agnes (Ruzena Anezka) Pulkrab. She had come to the U.S. from Pocatky, Moravia in 1912 with her father, when she was 16 years old and while living in Wahoo and Schyler, Nebraska, she worked as a domestic for several families to help her father, a tailor, earn and save enough money to send back to Europe so her mother, sister and two brothers would be able to come to America. I visited Czechie in 1985 and found a Frantisek Podzimek Living at STRUZINEC 5,OKRES TABOR,POSTA JISTEBNICE 39133. I was told that this farm was in the Podzimek family for over 600 years. I have not had any correspondence from them in the past 5 years. Since they were much older than I, I believe they may have passed away?? I also found relatives from my mothers side of the family. They also were much older than I, and I have lost contact with them. If we are related I would like to know more about my Czech roots, any information you could pass on to me would be greatly appreciated.
