We are searching for the ancestry of a man named Karel Joseph Vlach. We know that he fled Europe during the second world war and he came by boat to Canada. In his lifetime here he never talked a lot about his ancestry and now his grandchildren are curious as to where he came from and who his parents were and if they have extended family still alive. He died in November of 1982 in London Ontario Canada at the approximate age of 60. We have no idea where to begin but we do know that our book of names here list Charles and karel in the same category, Karel being taken from Charles so we thought perhaps the grandfather that you are searching for could be his father. Please email us back to let us know if you have any information on where we could obtain further leads to his ancestry.

I am researching the Bohemian branch of our family. My great-grandparents, Joseph and Mary Hoffman, emigrated to America sometime in the 1890's, temporarily settling in Illnois, and then settling permanently in Scio, Oregon. He married Sarah Boldrick, and they had three boys: Al, Vernon (who continued with Hoffman Jewelers), and my father, Lewis Hoffman, an attorney. My father died 05/19/98. The dates on my great-grandparents' tombstones are: Joseph Hoffman, born 08/10/1853, died 07/16/1914; Mary Hoffman, born 03/02/1857, died 11/14/1927. I would appreciate any information. Thanks!
