I am researching the name Pourova from Nepomuk. My ancestors Josef and Ludmila Pourova are from there. All I know for dates is that their daughter Mary was born on Oct.23, 1903 and they came to America shortly after. They might have first lived in Chicago, but soon moved to Edwardsville, IL - 11 miles east of St.Louis. Somewhere along the way, our name was changed to Paur. I believe some other relatives of mine in America might have the name Pour. Interestingly, when searching the net, I just found
St.John Nepomuk Church and found it was in St. Louis on "Bohemian Hill" just 3 blocks from where I am moving to in 3 weeks. Kind of ironic, isn't it? Anyway, they say it's the oldest Czech Catholic Church in America. I'm not Catholic though. Anyway, write back if any names sound familiar.

Researching: SKARKA, LEBINA, TALACKOVA, TALACKO, KABELACOVA, LUMPOVA, LUMP, CERNOVSKA, CERNOVSKY, TRNKOVA, ZIVNA, ZIVNY, MORAVCOVA, MORAVEC, KRATOCHVILOVA, KRATOCHVIL, SNETIVA, SNETIVY, ZROUNKOVA, ZROUNEK, VANESOVA, PERNICKOVA, PERNICEK, CHVALTINOVA
The above surnames are the result of the genealogical research to date on my surname, Skarka. Many thanks to the fine professional researcher, Hana Skockova of Prague, for the excellent work she has done for me. I am posting this to try to make connections to anyone who may have information on any of these surnames and will gladly share what I have. In summary, here is what I have: my Great Grandfather was Frantisek Josef Skarka, b. 2/25/1878, in Hrabesin 33, Bohemia. He died in Queens, NY on 2/18/1918. I have been unsuccessful in learning his exact immigration date so far. The 1900 Census says he arrived in 1885. But I have found no record of that yet. He married Frantiska Lebina, b. 9/03/1878, supposedly in Prague, and died in Center Moriches, NY 9/04/1968. I have found out absolutely zero on her family. I am not sure if that is the correct surname. Frantisek's father was Jan Skarka, b. 1853, d. 1882, Hrabesin 33. His mother was Marie Talackova of Pabenice 7, daughter of Frantisek Talacko and Marie Kabelacova. Jan and Marie had seven sons and three daughters. I only have the names of two other sons besides my g-grandfather: Jan, b. 1882, d. 1920, Hrabesin; Josef, b. 1885. Jan's parents were Vaclav Skarka, b. 1824, d. 1882, in Hrabesin, and Anna Lumpova, b. 1826, d. 1907, in Hrabesin. Anna was the daughter of Josef Lump, b. 1802, Olsany, Bohemia, and Barbora Moravcova, b. 1799, d. 1859, Hrabesin. Josef Lump's parents were Jakub Lump and Barbora Zivna of Olsany (Barbora was the daughter of Vaclav Zivny). Barbora Moravcova was the daughter of Frantisek Moravec of Hrabesin and Anna Kratochvilova of Trebonin (Anna was the daughter of Bernard Kratochvil). Vaclav Skarka and Anna Lumpova had 11 children born between 1846 and 1868. Vaclav's parents were Josef Skarka, b. 1802, Cerniny, d. 1864, Hrabesin, and Anna Cernovska of Bahno 15. Anna's parents were Jan Cernovsky, b. 1765 and Anna Trnkova of Brezova. Jan Cernovsky was the son of Jiri Cernovsky and Anna (?). Josef Skarka and Anna Cernovska had 11 children between 1823 and 1847. Josef's parents were Jan Skarka, b. 1774, Cerniny 23, d. 1821, and Katerina Snetiva, b. 1764, d. 1844, Cerniny. Katerina was the daughter of Jan Snetivy, Innkeeper, Bohdanec, Cerniny and Anna (?). Jan and Katerina had 4 children between 1797 and 1802. Jan's parents were Jan Skarka, b. 1738, Brezova, d. 1818, Cerniny, and Barbora Zrounkova, b. 1742, d. 1822, of Cerniny. Barbora was the daughter of Vaclav Zrounek, Innkeeper, Cerniny, and Ludmila Vanesova. Jan and Barbora had 13 children. All but 2 died as infants. Two sons died on the same day in March 1771 during the time of a catastrophic famine when 1/10th of the inhabitants died. Jan's parents were Jan Skarka, b. 1716, Vidice, d. 1770, Brezova, and Dorota (?). they had two children, Jan and Anna, b. 1747. Jan's (b. 1716) parents were Jindrich Karel Skarka, b. 1686, Vidice, and Anna Pernickova. They had 3 children, Vaclav, Katerina and Jan. Anna Pernickova was the daughter of Petr Pernicek of Vidice. Karel's (used that name) parents were Jan Skarka, b. 1658, Bykan, and Anna Chvaltinova of Chlistovice. They had 3 children, Martin, Karel and Jan. Jan (b. 1658) was the son of Jan Skarka, b. abt. 1635, Bykan and Zuzana (?). They had two children, Jan and Katerina (b. 1663). This Jan was one of only 3 Skarkas mentioned on The Roll of Assessment, ordered by the Austrian Hapsburgs after the 30 years war, which basically inventoried the remaining families after the devastation of the Czech countries. Only 800,000 inhabitants survived of 3 million on the Czech Kingdom.

Researching: PROCHASKA, CHOCHOLA, KRUS, LOUCKA, TRUPL, DRABEK
Researching Prochaska, Chochola, Krus, Loucka, Trupl, and Drabek. I am trying to complete a family tree, starting with my great-great-great-grandfather, surname Prochaska, from Olomouc. His first marriage resulted in four children: Marie (born 1842), Josef, Johan, and Anton. His second marriage, approx. 20 years later, resulted in four more: Antonie, Baruska, Vaclav, and Frank. Marie Prochaska married Vincent Chochola and moved to Yugoslavia -- Veliki Zdenci. They had seven children who survived to adulthood: Marjanka, Antonie, Ruzenka, Anna, Bozenka, Josef, and Aneska. Several of the children moved to Sarajevo, and then to the U.S. Josef Prochaska married and had six children. I do not know the names of the wife or the children. Anton Prochaska married and had six children, a daughter named Marie and five sons, one of whom may have been named Jerry. It is thought they emigrated to Chicago. Antonie Chochola married Johan Krus and emigrated to the US in July 1909 with their two children, Robert (born 1897; died 1971, in Wisconsin) and Antonie (born: 1909); first to Dayton, OH, then to Cicero, Ill. Ruzenka Chochola married Josef Loucka, and also emigrated to the US and settled in Chicago. Their children were Vincent (born: 1898), Mary (1908), Frank (1910?) and Chuck (1911?). Bozenka Chochola married Stefan Trupl and had three children; they emigrated to the US in 1911 but then returned to Tomasica. Josef Chochola married a woman named Marjanka and had two children. It is unknown if they emigrated to the US. Aneska Chochola married Frank Drabek and emigrated to Chicago. They had four children: Antonie, Frank, Mary, and Joe. Any information or pointers to fill in the gaps would be very appreciated.

Researching: ZIMA, HAVELKA, HAVELKOVA, BALEJ, FRANTA, SVOBODA, SMID
Researching Zima, Havelka, Balej, Franta, Svoboda, and Smid. I am seeking information on my great grandfather Josef Zima who immigrated to Chicago in 1880 from unknown Bohemian town. He married Mary Havelka (Havelkova) from Hostkovice, district of Caslav, in May 1883. They had one child, Joseph, born February 1884. Josef died in Chicago (Pilsen) on November 9, 1884 at age 24 years. Burial place unknown. Death certificate does not list much information. Cannot find obituary. Where else can I look for information? Also researching Havelka and Svoboda from Hostkovice and nearby Hlohov. And, Balej, Franta, and Smid from Ivina, now Jivina, near Komarov, about 25 miles southwest of Prague. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Researching: KUS, KASIK, STEDRY, and HRDY
Am searching for several origins of several ancestors who arrived in Cleveland, Ohio, in the 1870s. Josef Kus probably arrived in the US in December, 1870 at the age of nine years. His birth place is listed simply as Bohemia. He married Agnes (Anezka) Kasik -- she was born about 1863 in Bohemia. Their son Charles (born Cleveland 1884) married Francis Stedry (also born in Cleveland in 1884). I know nothing about her father, John Stedry, except that he was born in Bohemia. Her mother, Mary Hrdy, was born in the town of Uhelna Pribaum in August, 1850. I have visited this town (east of Kunta Hora, east of Prague) and noted many Hrdy tombstones in the graveyard around the town church.

Searching for family connections in Czech Republic. All know Frantisaks in the USA are related and there are only 11! We know there are some in Bystrice Pod Hostynem. They are cousins. I found another group in Hamilton Ontario Canada, but cannot establish relationship. There is also two related families in Toronto who come from the same village as Grandfather Anton Frantisak...Lidecko. But again, cannot establish links. Great Grandfather Mikulas Frantisak had three brothers Frantisek, Martin and Jakub, but no information about their families except they all were married and were born between 1848 and 1868. Mikulas also had three sons, Anton (who came to American in the early part of this century), Mikulas(the father of the Bytrice P. Host group) and Joseph. Joseph married a Marie Bucek in 1919, but that is the only information we have on him.

Researching: CUKR, BURANT, BASTYR, KADERBEK, MANDELIK, HORAK, BROM, URBAN
We are researching the Burant family tree. We think Edward D. Burant came to the US abt 1872. He married Mary Bastyr and they had four children, Henry, Marry, Edward and Otto. Otto married Bessie Brom and they had two sons, Raymond Edward and Robert Otto. Robert is my father. On my mother's side, James Cukr and Frank Horak came to the US approximately the same time and married Bertha Urban and Anastasia Mandelik, respectively. My ancestors on both sides were from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Upon arriving in the US, they all lived in the Cleveland, Ohio area. The only discrepancy I have found so far is that Otto once told a neice that the real family name had been Kaderbeck, and it was changed to Burant. Burant was a derivation of a river in the home country. We are looking for information on all of the names above.

His 3 children came 5 weeks later (his wife had died after he left) Daughter Albina, my grandmother, was age 3 at the time and was said to have been born in Munich. Can't find info on her, or on John's birth village. His 2nd wife was Theresa Krousl / Krouschl, married in Belmont Co. Ohio. I believe that name is spelled Krcl in Czech Republic. Does anyone know that name and where they may be located? Theresa's death cert. says her father was Josef Krausl, mother: Josephine Tepr (but this could be an error--maybe it was Petr.) The Frank Koci family, also living in Belmont Co. was related through Theresa--Frank's wife was Valburga Krousl, a niece--but do not know where they came from.
