I am looking for any information on my great grandfather, Anton Mansfeld. He came to Chicago from Bohemia (unknown year). He was born approximately 1832. He died in Chicago, February 4, 1891. It is believed he changed his name to Mansfield sometime during his life. He had four children, one of them, Charles Augustus Mansfield, is my grandfather. I believe he married Anna Kolbaba, also from Bohemia. It is unknown if they married in Bohemia or Chicago. During the 1880 census he lived with his family at 492 Canal St., Chicago. Any information would be appreciated.

Researching: RATCHOZOVA, JIRSA
Josefa (Ratchozova) Jirsa was born in 1855, married (?) Jirsa in 1874 and at the time of her immigration to the USA, 1888, she was a widow. She was listed on her travel pass as a seamstress, residing in Strompouch in the district of Caslav. Her husband, (?) Jirsa, was in the Austrian Calvary. They had four daughters that immigrated with their mother: Maria, born in Bikar, age 10; Vinancie (?), born in Roth Janovia, age 8; my grandmother, Anna, no birthplace listed, age 6; and Antonie, born in Krafels, age 4 1/2. What would her port of departure have been? Her arrival was, presumably, New York. That was before Ellis Island was an official processing center. Josefa was a Catholic. She could not write, and married a farmer named Nesiba in St. Paul, Nebraska. I am astounded at the courage it must have taken to accomplish what she did. Any clues as to why Nebraska, and how could she have had the money for such an undertaking? Thank you so very much vor any assistance.

Researching: POCHTA, RATKOSKY, RATKOSKI
A marriage record of my great-grandfather, Georg Albert Pochta, b. Prague, 1860, indicates his mother's name is Elisabeth Ratkosky (Ratkoski); father is Francis Pochta. George immigrated to US in 1876, along with his mother, and sisters Josefa and Emmaline, via Bremen, Germany through Baltimore. Ship registry indicates Bohemia as their homeland. Elisabeth is listed in the Cook Co, IL (Chicago) 1880 Census along with Josefa. It does not appear that the father came with them. George was naturalized in LaPorte Co, IN in 1880. Later, he went by the name George A. Procter. He died in Michigan City, IN in 1935. Any thoughts, info on the name Ratkoski would be welcomed. I thought it sounded more Polish than Czech. (Query regarding Pochta is already posted). Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Researching: MAZAC, BOGAR
I am looking for the town of origin and siblings of my great grandparents "Mazac" in Moravia. Their names were Josef and Catherina (Bogar) Mazac. When they left Moravia in 1885 for the U.S., they had one daughter, Anna (1885). They left from the port of Bremen, Germany and arrived in Galveston, Texas (1885). They settled on a farm in Ellinger, Texas and had three more children: Rosie (1886), Anton (1888), and Joseph (1890). Does anyone know anything about these people, either in the U.S. or in Moravia? I would appreciate any information that you may have.

Researching: POSPISCHIL, KRAUT, BIER, FRIESLEBEN, WOLF, KRUMPEL, SISCHKA, FEDERSEL, SCHLOESSER, WEIS, HANICK, SCHANER
I am looking to make connections with researchers doing work on the above Family lines coming from these communities in Moravia: Svitavy (Zwittau), Jedlov, Bystr (Bistrau) & Koclirov (Ketzelsdorf). My Grandfather, Albert Pospischil, was one of 16 children born to Franz and Anna Maria (nee Freisleben) Pospischil in Schoenbrunn, southwest of Zwittau (Svitavy). He and 6 of his brothers plus 1 sister came to the USA in between 1900 and 1915, settling in Janesville, Wisconsin and South Beloit and Freeport, Illinois. We have developed most of the family history here in this country and back into Germany and the 20th century connections in the Sudetenland. However I would like to make contact with others that may be researching the following names from this area of central Moravia (Schoenhengstgau): Pospischil, Freisleben, Krumpl, Mangold, Sischka, Federsel, Schloesser, and Weis. The Family and research is much too large to put all information here, but I will be glad to help where I can and if anyone has any input or questions please let me know. Thanks!
