Researching: BENES, ZELENKA, HOUSKA
Searching for ancestors of my great grandfather, Frank Michael Benes, b: March 7, 1851, in Prague, d: July 8, 1914, in Oklahoma City, OK. He came to the USA when he was 14 (1865) with a sister (name unknown) and a brother, James (who lived in Tindall, SD in the 1940's). Before moving to Oklahoma, Frank lived in South Dakota and, I believe, also in Nebraska (some relatives settling in Table Rock, Nebraska). According to information from a newspaper article quoting Frank's brother James, James' and Frank's first cousin was Mahej Benes, father of Edouard Benes, former president of Czechoslovakia. In fact, Frank and Mahej were "double first cousins." Frank's father was the brother of Mahej's father and Frank's mother was the sister of Mahej's mother. Therefore, if this newspaper article is accurate, the ancestors of President Edouard Benes would be identical to those I am searching for. Frank Michael Benes was married to Mary Zelenka, b: Nov. 17, 1856, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, d: July 28, 1942, in Oklahoma City, OK. Mary's father was Joseph Zelenka, b: 1811, d: 1894, and her mother was Catherine Anne Houska, b: 1818, d: 1891. I would appreciate any information and would love to hear from living relatives in the USA and/or the Czech Republic.

Researching: DOBRY, SEMRAD, SIS, ROSKOVITZ, STEHNO
I would really like to be able to locate the following towns in present-day Europe. Any information about my ancestors would also be much appreciated. Joseph Dobry was born in 1836 in the village of Zhor, Okres Habrry, Kray Caslav, Vilimov, Bohemia. He married Mary Magdalena Semrad (b 1834 in Fridenou, Okres etc.). While in Bohemia they had Anton, Anna, Vaclav, Joseph, and John Julian. They immigrated to America in 1873 and settled in Butler Co., Nebraska near Bruno. My great grandmother, Apolena Julia, was their first child born in America in 1875. Mary Semrad Dobry (d. 1925) is buried in Yukon, OK, so the family must have lived there for awhile. Apolena married Frank T. Sis (name had some letters dropped) in 1891 in Abie, Nebraska. (Frank immigrated in 1885 with his parents, Karel Sis and Josephine Roskovitc Sis from Shephenor Co, Bystrice Province, Moravia) They settled in Rawlins Co., KS, where 17 children were born to them. Their daughter Mary married Frank Stehno, my grandfather.
