Researching: BALLAS, MADIZSKI
According to records from Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer, Wisconsin my grandfather, Martin F. Ballas, was born on 12 December 1860 in Seutenberg, Boehmen. His father is listed as Franz Ballas and his mother is listed as Frances Madizski. He came to America in 1888 and settled in Spencer, Marathon County, Wisconsin. I've searched with no luck for a place called Seutenberg and I can't find a single person named Madizski anywhere in the world. I was also told that Martin is listed as a member of the Krueger-Verein in the Marathon County, Wisconsin centenial (1874 - 1974) book and that the Krueger-Verein was an organization for former German army soldiers. In US census records he lists his place of birth differently each time, Austria, Germany, Bohemia. His son's WWI draft registration lists his father's birth place as West Prague. Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated. Visit the Ancestry.com Ballas Family Facts Database.

Researching: DVORAK
I have finally, at long last, received a passenger record from the SS Frisia, at the point of embarkation, from the port of Hamburg, Germany, with my ancestors Dvorak on the list! The record tells the name of the town where my ancestors came from! The town reads Dudin, which is in Jihlava, Czech Republic. The names are the very same names and the very same spelling as the names on the New York Passenger list from the year 1881, when my great grandparents arrived in the USA. I was told that Ancestry.com had a free trial of the Hamburg passenger list. So I went there to sign up, so that I could search. Unfortunately I myself was unable to find the page where they were located, so someone on the Bohemian list on Rootsweb helped me find the list, and sure enough, there they were!! There was Vaclav, age 32, Marie, age 32, Franz, age 3, and Vaclav, infant. I am on cloud nine, needless to say! Thank you everyone everywhere who had anything to do with helping me out on this search which I've been on since 1997! Visit the Ancestry.com Dvorak Family Facts Database.

Researching: MOTYCKA
I am trying to locate back issues (those of the early 1930's and 1940's) of the newspaper Hlas Naroda. This was, I believe, printed in Chicago and mailed to Czech subscribers throughout the country, and maybe worldwide - I am not sure. My grandmother Frances Motycka, of Van Wert, Ohio, had a column in the Hlas Naroda entitled "Woman to Woman", and wrote mostly on the perils of communism. My father, Charles Joseph Motycka, of Van Wert, Ohio, was the first college graduate (University of Detroit) of the immigrants who migrated to the Van Wert area from Czechoslovakia in the very early 1900's. I am interested in ANY information available about the Hlas Naroda. I would eventually like copies of all the issues in which my grandmothers articles appeared. If anyone has any info of help please email me. Thank you and God Bless! I am so proud to be of Czech descent. Visit the Ancestry.com Motycka Family Facts Database.

Researching: WEISKOPF, DEIMEL. KLEIN, LEHRER
I am looking for birthplace of Anton Weiskopf and Josephine Deimel. They are my great-great grandparents who lived in Chicago, Cook County, IL in 1868. Anton died in 1889 in Chicago and Josephine died April 1900 as a result of being run over by a horse & carriage. Is anyone researching these people? They had 6 children that I know of, 4 born in Austria/Czech Republic? The other two children born in Chicago, IL Anton was born about 1819 and Josephine about 1840, may be 2nd marriage for Anton, not sure? Does anyone know of the Weiskopf family in Bohemia? Anton Weiskopf was born about 1819 in Bohemia and moved to Chicago, IL in 1868 arriving in Baltimore, MD. He appears in the 1880 census with wife Josephine born in Bayern and 4 children, Mary, Charley, August & Frank. August is my great-grandfather, Anton would be my great- great grandfather. In researching the children I found another 2 children that were married prior to 1880 so they do not appear on the census with the family, Anna or Annie who married Joseph Klein, and Emilie who married Max Lehrer. Does anyone know anything about this family, such as where they came from in Europe? Visit the Ancestry.com Weiskopf Family Facts Database.
