Researching: HODEK, SKRIVAN
My great-grandparents were Frank W. Hodek and Treasa Skrivan. I have no idea when
they immigrated to the US, but know they had 4 children while in Baltimore, MD:
Theresa, Frank, Albina and Aida. Frank W. Jr. was my grandfather. He served in the first
WW and moved to Omaha, as did Theresa, Albina and Aida. Subsequently, he, his wife
(Lucile Marie Dressel) and his two children, Lucille Albina (my mother) and Henrietta
Therese, moved to Hollywood with his sister, Aida. My great-grandfather divorced
Treasa Skrivan in the mid-1920's and went back to Czechoslovakia, but I have no idea of
the city or village. He died there. My grandfather, Frank W. Hodek, Jr. was the musical
conductor of the Aksarben in Omaha; and then the NBC orchestra in Hollywood. He died
in the early 1950's. He was born 7/19/1894 or 1895, married Lucile Dressel in Chicago,
Illinois on 12/21/17. I would appreciate any information on either the Skrivan or Hodek
families.

PAIDER, TREJBAL, TREJBALOVA, HIRNER, HIRNEROVA, HUBNER
Searching for information on Joseph Holub and wife Theresia and family, who came to
Wisconsin after 1855, probably from the area of Olesna (Wolesna), Liblin Parish,
Rokycany County, Bohemia. Joseph, b. abt. 1823, and Theresia, b. abt. 1825, lived in
Kewaunee/Manitowoc Cos., Wisconsin, in mid- to late-1800's. They were buried at St.
Mary's Cem., Tisch Mills, Manitowoc or Kewaunee Co., Wisconsin. Their children were:
John, b. abt. 1848, in Bohemia (had wife, Catherine, b. abt. 1852 in Bohemia), and
reportedly Mrs. Mathieson, Mrs. Karmazien, Mrs. Padour (Paider), and
probably others. All the named children seemingly lived in Kewaunee/Manitowoc Cos.,
Wisconsin. Joseph was brother to Josefa, b. 1813, who married Martin Holub, b. 1813.
Joseph was also brother to Adalbert (aka Wojtech, Vojtech, Albert), b. 1810, who married
Maria Trejbal (Trejbalova) and then married Katerina Hirner (Hirnerova-
some documents erroneously show "Hubner"). I would like to learn the date of
immigration of Joseph, Theresia and family, vessel name, and American port of entry. I

Researching: SKARKA, LEBINA, TALACKOVA, TALACKO,
KABELACOVA, LUMPOVA, LUMP, CERNOVSKA, CERNOVSKY, TRNKOVA, ZIVNA, ZIVNY,
MORAVCOVA, MORAVEC, KRATOCHVILOVA, KRATOCHVIL, SNETIVA, SNETIVY,
ZROUNKOVA, ZROUNEK, VANESOVA, PERNICKOVA, PERNICEK, CHVALTINOVA
The above surnames are the result of the genealogical research to date on my surname,
Skarka. Many thanks to the fine professional researcher, Hana Skockova of Prague, for
the excellent work she has done for me. I am posting this to try to make connections to
anyone who may have information on any of these surnames and will gladly share what I
have. In summary, here is what I have: my Great Grandfather was Frantisek Josef
Skarka, b. 2/25/1878, in Hrabesin 33, Bohemia. He died in Queens, NY on 2/18/1918. I
have been unsuccessful in learning his exact immigration date so far. The 1900 Census
says he arrived in 1885. But I have found no record of that yet. He married Frantiska
Lebina, b. 9/03/1878, supposedly in Prague, and died in Center Moriches, NY 9/04/1968.
I have found out absolutely zero on her family. I am not sure if that is the correct
surname. Frantisek's father was Jan Skarka, b. 1853, d. 1882, Hrabesin 33. His mother
was Marie Talackova of Pabenice 7, daughter of Frantisek Talacko and Marie
Kabelacova. Jan and Marie had seven sons and three daughters. I only have the names of
two other sons besides my g-grandfather: Jan, b. 1882, d. 1920, Hrabesin; Josef, b. 1885.
Jan's parents were Vaclav Skarka, b. 1824, d. 1882, in Hrabesin, and Anna Lumpova, b.
1826, d. 1907, in Hrabesin. Anna was the daughter of Josef Lump, b. 1802, Olsany,
Bohemia, and Barbora Moravcova, b. 1799, d. 1859, Hrabesin. Josef Lump's parents
were Jakub Lump and Barbora Zivna of Olsany (Barbora was the daughter of Vaclav
Zivny). Barbora Moravcova was the daughter of Frantisek Moravec of Hrabesin and
Anna Kratochvilova of Trebonin (Anna was the daughter of Bernard Kratochvil). Vaclav
Skarka and Anna Lumpova had 11 children born between 1846 and 1868. Vaclav's
parents were Josef Skarka, b. 1802, Cerniny, d. 1864, Hrabesin, and Anna Cernovska of
Bahno 15. Anna's parents were Jan Cernovsky, b. 1765 and Anna Trnkova of Brezova.
Jan Cernovsky was the son of Jiri Cernovsky and Anna (?). Josef Skarka and Anna
Cernovska had 11 children between 1823 and 1847. Josef's parents were Jan Skarka, b.
1774, Cerniny 23, d. 1821, and Katerina Snetiva, b. 1764, d. 1844, Cerniny. Katerina was
the daughter of Jan Snetivy, Innkeeper, Bohdanec, Cerniny and Anna (?). Jan and
Katerina had 4 children between 1797 and 1802. Jan's parents were Jan Skarka, b. 1738,
Brezova, d. 1818, Cerniny, and Barbora Zrounkova, b. 1742, d. 1822, of Cerniny.
Barbora was the daughter of Vaclav Zrounek, Innkeeper, Cerniny, and Ludmila Vanesova.
Jan and Barbora had 13 children. All but 2 died as infants. Two sons died on the same
day in March 1771 during the time of a catastrophic famine when 1/10th of the inhabitants
died. Jan's parents were Jan Skarka, b. 1716, Vidice, d. 1770, Brezova, and Dorota (?).
they had two children, Jan and Anna, b. 1747. Jan's (b. 1716) parents were Jindrich Karel
Skarka, b. 1686, Vidice, and Anna Pernickova. They had 3 children, Vaclav, Katerina and
Jan. Anna Pernickova was the daughter of Petr Pernicek of Vidice. Karel's (used that
name) parents were Jan Skarka, b. 1658, Bykan, and Anna Chvaltinova of Chlistovice.
They had 3 children, Martin, Karel and Jan. Jan (b. 1658) was the son of Jan Skarka, b.
abt. 1635, Bykan and Zuzana (?). They had two children, Jan and Katerina (b. 1663).
This Jan was one of only 3 Skarkas mentioned on The Roll of Assessment, ordered by the
Austrian Hapsburgs after the 30 years war, which basically inventoried the remaining
families after the devastation of the Czech countries. Only 800,000 inhabitants survived of
3 million on the Czech Kingdom.

Researching: BERKA, MAGANJA, MAGEN, KARNISH,
MORGAN, MARKOVICH
Am searching for the ancestors and relatives of my grandmother Anna
Marie Morgan. Morgan was the name given her and her brother John in the
orphanage in Helena, Montana. Anna's parents were identified through
baptism and marriage records found in Nebraska. John Maganja, son of
Joseph Maganja of Bohemia married Anna Berka, daughter of Mary Karnish
and James Berka of Bohemia. They married in Omaha in 1890. They had
three children in Omaha, Anna, John, and a deceased baby girl. My
grandmother remembers visits by an uncle who worked for the railroad.
Her father was a smelter worker who moved the family to Anaconda,
Montana around 1895. His father and brother, Joseph, moved to southern
Colorado at that time according to church records in Omaha. Anna died
giving birth either in Omaha or Anaconda. My grandmother thinks she had
a baby brother who was adopted. The sister of Anna Berka Maganja, Mary
Berka, followed Anna to America but never found her. Mary did find her
children, Anna & John before she died. Mary married Joseph Markovich in
Anaconda, Montana and lived in Butte most of her life. Is anyone
looking for these two sisters? I would like to connect with any
ancestors of Berka, Karnish, or Maganja.
