I am doing the Kortonick family genealogy. My Great Great Grandfather was born in Bohemia. He
came to this country some time before 1866. Most likely in the 1850's.
I don't know his first (given) name for certain, but I believe it may
have been John. His wife was also born in Bohemia. Her first name might
have been Catherine. I don't know when they were married or where they
were married (U.S.A. or Bohemia). They had a son named Joseph, born in 1866
in Cleveland, Ohio. He is my Great Grandfather. He could speak the German
Language. They had other children. "John" may have married more than once.

Researching: SCHESTAG, DAMELL
Researching Schestag and Damell. I am researching John Schestag b 16 Dec
1834 and his wife Katherine Damell b 20 Nov 1841. They said they were from
Hermansdorf, probably Bohemia or Moravia, when they came to Allegan County,
Michigan in 1869. They both died in Salem, Allegan Co., MI. John in 1888
and Katherine in 1889. He was a gunmaker before immigrating, a farmer in
Michigan and the family was Catholic. They spoke German and had 10 children.
They said they were from Austria and Germany on the US Census' in 1870 and
1880. The church records in Allegan County say they were from both Bohemia
and Moravia as well as Australia! Surely the last was an obvious error. I
could sure use some help with this family.

Researching: KARELA, BRYCH, HRUBY, RYS, NOVATIL
I'm looking for information about the following family members:
Josef Karela, born approx. 1888, who emigrated to Chicago with
his parents Jan Karela and Barbara Brych when he was 4. Karela
may be a derivative of an Italian name, there are some rumours
that the Karela were servents from Italy who came to Bohemia.
He married Frantiska Hruby who had also come from Bohemia. Her
parents were Josef Hruby and Frantiska Rys, and they stayed in
Bohemia as best we know. Another sister or relative may have
been in Chicago. The only other Bohemian ancestors we know of are
Anthony Rys and his wife Novatil, but we don't know if that is
a first or last name. Thanks.

Researching: KOTRBA, DVORACEK, DVORACKOVA
Kotrba family originally from Krchleby near Caslav and Kutna Hora in
Bohemia. My great-great grandfather Frantisek Kotrba was born there in
1842 and died in 1883. He may have had two brothers who emigrated to
the US in the 1870s. His oldest son is my great-grandfather, Vaclav,
arrived in the US in 1892. Frantisek's wife was Marie Dvorackova, whose father, Antonin, was mayor
of Krchleby and apparently a well-travelled businessman. Will also
