DIGITALIZATION OF BRATISLAVA'S ANTIFONARIS

International Project

The Foundation will participate in a project of digitalization of five antifonaris - rare manuscripts from the 15th century.

The 15th century Bratislava Antifonaris consists of five codices of local origin. It probably originates from the Saint Martin Cathedral scriptoria. It is lavishly illustrated in the late gothic style, assumed to be the work of M. Prenner, who enriched the colorful initial letters with motives from the sacral and secular worlds.

The codex was produced for the Bratislava canon Jan Hahn a member of the chapter of the St. Martin cathedral . The antiphonary is a cultural and historical source, illustrating a level of knowledge and a way of thinking, and is also related to the history of education.

These manuscripts belong to Bratislava's Chapter Library, which is today the most artistic and historic collection of valuable library manuscripts in Slovakia. The collection contains more than 3000 pieces from the 12th - 19th centuries.

Initial publication of five selected manuscripts from the library, in CD-ROM format, will hopefully, be the first electronic digitalization of other valuable historical documents, for international presentation.

In this way, the cultural history of Slovakia will become part of the UNESCO project "World Memory", which is a worldwide cultural and information exchange program.

Estimated costs: 20.000 $
