The first convention of the National Slovak Society was held at Allegheny (Pittsburgh), Pa. on February 16, 1890. The delegate of Assembly 1 at Hazleton was Stefan Oravec; of Assembly 2 at Plymouth was Anton S. Ambrose; of Assembly 3 at Pittsburgh was Peter V. Rovnianek; of assembly 4 at Cleveland was John Miller; and of Assembly 5 at Freeland, Pa. was Rev. Ludvik Novomesky. John Rybar was a representatlve from a Braddock, Pa. society, but without the authority of a delegate.

On that day in Walthers Hall at the Cor. of Chestnut and Vinial Streets was planted the seed that was destined to grow into America's first and foremost fraternal beneficial society of the Slovaks.

The 'Founding Fathers' have all passed on to the Assembly Eternal. Yet their all-embracing love of God, of country, of man, their pride in their ancestry, their indomitable spirit lives on in the Supreme Officers and in the Officers and brethren of the almstt 1,000 Subordinate Assemblies and Young Folks' Circles of the Society established throughout the land -- wherever Slovaks are to be found on the North American continent.

The National Slovak Society is very active in America today. For the latest information on the National Slovak Society visit the official National Slovak Society Web Site "Where Fraternal Benefits And Financial Security Have Met Since 1890".
