ALMOST $18,000,000.00 IN
BENEFIT PAYMENTS
The society was only several months old when Ignac Kohanovsky, a member of
Assembly 4 at Cleveland was called to his reward and his widow was paid
$300 -- a very substantial sum in that day. Before the society was a year
old, Brother Kocemba of Assembly 16 at Bayonne, New Jersey and Brother
Dorneck of Assembly 3 at Allegheny passed on and their widows received
$300 each. In 1891 the benefit was increased to $400 and in 1892 to $500.
After a span of years, the method of assessing each member, upon the death
of another, was abandoned and dues were based on a scientific actuarial
table. From this modest beginning, the National Slovak Society has paid
almost $18,000,000 to members and their beneficiaries since organization.
Compared with the $900 paid to beneficiaries in the year 1890, the Society
distributed $542,122.56 to its members and their loved ones in 1945.
It is worthwhile to mention that the Society has also expended for the relief of members and others in disaster and misfortune many millions of dollars and has contributed generously to educational, cultural and patriotic causes on both sides of the Atlantic. It has generously supported Slovak literature, arts and sciences.
The National Slovak Society is very active in America today. For the latest information on the National Slovak Society visit the official National Slovak Society Web Site "Where Fraternal Benefits And Financial Security Have Met Since 1890".
