YOUNGSTOWN THE MARVEL CITY
By Leonard Sawvel

Truly a Marvel City is Youngstown!

The Wonder City of Northeastern Ohio is she!

Prosperity has belched from her furnaces for over three quarters of a century; wealth has poured into the pockets of her workers; diversified industry. has made her a cosmopolitan center of manufacturing; the wealth of a wealthy citizenry has flowed into her banks; she has become a city of homes; municipal and'city improvements have kept pace with her growth in commerce and industry.

And today she is a city indeed -- recognized as one of the centers of all the world in the production of raw and finished iron and steel, rapidly forging to the front as a recognized center of a diversified industrial activity.

A Pittsburgh in embryo, surpassing even this center of iron and steel in many lines of production, possessing as she does in many lines of steel, the largest mills in the whole world; an Akron in the matter of rubber production; a Philadelphia in the matter of the homes of its average inhabitant; a Cleveland in the matter of the development of its diversified industry.

A cosmopolitan city whose fame has spread over a nation, whose laurels are known throughout the civilized world is the Youngstown of Today.

A city teeming with the feverish, intense activity which characterizes all the great business centers of the world. Her bank clearings and her steady payrolls evidence her greatness in a business way; a trip through her residential sections will reveal the prosperity which has come with the years of magnificent development to all her citizens; an inspection of the city and county improvements will give evidence of the wealth of the county and municipality which has come to her and of the civic pride of her citizenry; a trip through the beautiful and wonderful parks which dot the city, an inspection of the playgrounds, ball fields and swimming pools, found in every sector of the city, in which her young and old may profitably while away their leisure hours, an inspection of the private and public charitable institutions in which her less fortunate ctizens are cared for, will show the care she bestows in a general way upon the health and comfort of her residents; a glance at the scores of monumental edifices which house the hundreds of congregations of worshippers will evidence her advance in religious fields; her reputation as a center of education, her young college already with a fame befitting an old one, her magnificent public and parochial schools, her unequaled high schools, will evidence her care for the coming generations which must keep up the greatness she has attained.

Truly, Youngstown is a Marvel City!
