Researching: HANKO, BAKALAR
My grandfather's name was Michael Hanko. My grandmother's maiden name was Susan Bakalar.
They were my mom's parents. They were from Radvanovce before moving to Streator,
Illinois.They had a brother and sister marry each other also.I know there are still family
with name Hanko somewhere over there. Had cousin move to New York years ago who was from
that side of family. If anyone has any idea of how to contact family in Radvanovce or any

Researching: LANYI
I am looking for anyone who might have known of Susanne Rose Lanyi and her
young son Julius Samuel Lanyi. They left Gelnica (Czechoslovakia - now
Slovakia) in 1931 and 1932 for America. At the time, her last name was
Wolko which was her third husband. I am most interested in finding the name
of her second husband. I believe he owned a beer garden in or near Gelnica
and was Romanian.

Researching Hudak, Pochily, Hurban, Dubrava, Yuskovic, Muskowsky, and Sierocki.
My Hudaks, Yuskovics and Muskowskys are from Zlata Bana, Slovakia I believe.
Dubravas are from Gbely (Michael). Pochily is from Spisska Nova Ves. Andrew
Hudak came over to the U.S. in the early 1900's as did a couple of his
brothers. I am searching for Susanna Pochily's parents (maiden name Hurban).
He was supposedly named Joseph but I do not know Susanna's mother's name. I
do know she had a sister Kathryn (who married a Bartal). Susanna married
John Pochily. John's father was Rehor Pochily and his mother was Barbara
Kvaltyn. Looking forward to hearing from somebody who can lead me back
farther than I am already.

He came to America in 1904. A name on the back of an old photograph was Ondvej Galcek.

I am searching for any info on the surname, Imrova, my great grandmother's

Researching: MATLACH, MATLOCK
I'm searching for information about my mother's
grandfather, John (Jan) Matlach. John Matlach was
naturalized in Cleveland, Ohio in 1941. He was born
in the Austro-Hungarian Empire (Slovakia) in 1880,
probably in the city of or area around, Bratislava
(German name - Pressburg). John's wife was named
Mary, and she died in Cleveland, Ohio in 1921. John
(Jan) later changed his name to
John Matlock. John and Mary had four children, all
born in Cleveland: John Jr., Mike, Steve (My
grandfather), and Anne. John Sr. was in the Austrian
Army probably around 1888 or 1900. I'm looking for
John (Jan) Matlach's military records. I understand
that the Kriegsarchiv in Vienna may not have Slovak
National's military records. Does anyone know where I
could write to find these military records?

Anna and Maria Kocsis, daughters of John Kocsis and Maria Kunak, came to
America in 1900. Anna married Michael C. Mojcher; Maria married Joannes
Salamon, January 1903, in Bridgeport, CT. Joannes came to America in 1894.

I am researching the Lazor and Fecsko families from the village of Jastrabie or nearby
areas in Slovakia. My father, John Lazor was born in Jastrabie -1905, my mother Anna
(maiden name Fecsko) was born in Windber, Pennsylvania USA in 1902 and moved to
Jastrabie Slovakia in 1904. My parents were married in Jastrabie and then emigrated to
Canada in 1927 or 1928 and then settled in the Ardmore, Alberta area. My father had 3
brothers, Elais, Andrew and Mikulos and my mother had 1 or 2 sisters and 1 brother.
I recall my parents talking about families or friends living in Ohio, Pennsylvania,
New York, Indiana and other eastern states. Names included John Kepchar, Peter Molnar,
John Molnar, Steve Molnar, W.M. Molnar, William Molnar Jr., Mrs Catherine Molnar. Again,
I am not certain whether they were relatives so any information would be greatly appreciated.

identified their native language as Ruthenian in the 1920 US Census of

Researching: KAFFANA, SKRABAK
Looking for my grandmother's sister or her family. Maiden name was Kaffana,
not sure of her married name or the correct spelling of her first name (could
possibly be Teresa and would be about 83). My grandmother is 87, speaks
broken English and is hard to understand when she mixes in Slovak. We
believe her sister lived in Bukova or possibly Kosice, and my grandmother
does mention Bratislava as the bigger city near where they grew up. She had
3 other sisters who came to America at a very young age and 2 sisters who
stayed over in Europe. The 3 American sisters (deceased) were named Pauline,
Francis, and Mary. My grandmothers name is Stephania (Kaffana) Skrabak. We
know that one of the overseas sisters is deceased but were not sure of the
other I mentioned above. If I can find any more info on her sister's name, I
will write back here again. But as I said, grandma is 87 and doesn't speak
English clear or sharp. Thanks for any information!

My dad was born in or around Kosice, Slovakia June 7, 1931 to Anna Bobek. Her husband (Peter)
Vasilisin died while she was pregnant, and my dad (now deceased) never knew his own father,
or much about him. My Dad was raised by his maternal Grandparents and uncles, whom he
spoke of lovingly, and came to the US when he was 16 and lived with his mom and step dad (
George Kanuck) who migrated before the war. My dad never had much contact with Anna after
my parents were married (1958), and I barely knew that side of my family. Please, anyone

Researching: RODYCZ
I have found the arrived registraters of my ancestor Walentin Rodycz in Brazil: he was 32
years old and arrived on June 15, 1895, bringing his wife Catrina (25 years old) and two
children, Antoni (3 years old) and Michel (1 month). They arrived at Paranagua port,
State of Parana, south of Brazil. They were part of a group of 518 immigrants
Austro-Hungarians and more 49 Russians. They traveled by Rio Pardo Ship. Unfortunately,
there is no register of the European port that they started neither exactly area that they

Michael Bodnar (b. 9/9/1857) married Anna Gimont (10/13/1877) in Trevisov,
Zemplin Co., Austria-Hungary. They were one set of my great-grandparents.
They had three sons, Andrew, Michael and George. Michael, Andrew & another
son, immigrated to the US in 1896. Anna and younger son immigrated at a
later time. My other great-grandparents were John Baleski (or Balicky, Balicka,
Baliski--I seen it spelled all four ways) (d. circa 1889) and Anna Miklas
(d. circa 1897). They had five children: Anna, Mary, Elizabeth, Paul &
Susan. John was a veterinarian; Anna was a mid-wife. I think Paul stayed
in Austria-Hungary (I don't know the town they were from). Susan joined her
sisters in the US when she was 16 (around 1903).
