Researching: MOLNAR, MLYNAR, MLINAR
I am searching for more information about my grandfather, Paul Molnar, and his family. I know the name "Molnar" is Hungarian, but we are Carpatho-Rusyn. I have copies of birth certificates dating back to 1771, my great, great, great grandfather Andrew Molnar. My grandfather was born in 1980 in a town called Kalsa. I know Kalso is also a name for Kosice, but I have a photocopy of a portion of an old map that shows a town of Kalso a few miles southeast of Kosice. It is near the present day towns of Slanec, Zemplinka Teplica, Niz Zipov and Trebisov. My great, great, great grandfather was born in Slivnik (NOT Svidnik) somewhere near Kosice. My grandfather came to America on March 6, 1906 aboard the Wilhem der Grosse (William the Great), from Bremen, Germany. Accompanying him were two brothers, John and Andrew. Two other brothers, George and Steve, stayed in Slovakia. Steve was conscripted into the Army during WW1, I am presuming the Austro-Hungarian army. My grandfather settled in Windber, Pennsylvania, a few miles outside of Johnstown. He died in 1950 after working in coal mines all of his life. He had 13 children, my father (Joseph) was the third oldest, and died in 1989. I am looking for more information about Slivnik, Kalsa and the Molnar name in general. I understand it means "miller" and was probably once "Mlynar" or "Mlinar." Would this have been changed when the Uniate church was established? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

Researching: KUBAN, STEVANKA
I am looking for any information I can get on my parents arrival into Ellis Island, New York. My mother arrived in America approximately in 1914. She went by train to Cleveland, Ohio. Where she worked as a cook for wealthy families. Her name was Maria Kuban and her cousin's name was Kate Kuban. They came together on the same boat. I don't know the name of the boat. Maria Kuban came from Piestany, Czechoslovakia. My father name was Stefan Stevanka. He came from Solcany, Czechoslovakia. He had a brother who settled in Cleveland, Ohio, so Stefan Stevanka also settled in Cleveland, Ohio. How do I find what boat they came on? What year (for sure) and what time of the year did they come to America.

Researching: HAZUGA, HAZUDA, HAZUPA, HASHUGA, HASHUDA, GERMEK, GERMACK, LIPTAK, PAULISH, KOVAL, BARAN, STUTTGEN
Searching for people with variation spellings of surname Hazuga. Did your immigrant ancestor, of a similar surname, come from Hungary, Austria-Hungary, or Slovakia? Village of Dobra? Nagy-Dobra? ZemplinDobra? In Zemplean Megye? I have a list of 14 Hazuga men and 11 Hazugova women who were born in, or near, Dobra Slovakia between 1875 to 1903. These birth records are in the archives in municipality Slovenska Kajna or in Presov, Slovakia. I am told that all 25 people immigrated. My research to date can locate only 7 out of the 25 named people......and these 7 are centered in WI, PA, OH, and Slovakia. That leaves a large number of Hazuga immigrants unaccounted for. This raises the possibility that some immigrants may have been registered under a sound-alike name, and also that they settled in other areas, or in countries other that the USA. Excluding duplicates, the men's first names are: Andrej (Andrew), Jan (John), Josef, and Michal. The women are: Alzbeta, Anna, Maria, and Terezia. (A lot of duplicate first names, but all with different birth dates!). If your ancestor, or you, have a surname same or similar to HAZUGA, I'd appreciate a contact. I will do a look-up on my list of 25 if you have an ancestor of same/similar surname and with a birth date between 1875 to 1903. Let's look for a connection.

Researching: JENCIK, YENCHICK, KOLLAR
Searching for information on the surname Jencik. My grandfather Stephan Jencik was born in 1868 in Ungwar. My father thinks this was in Austria- Hungary, and my grandfather spoke Slovak. He came to the US in 1888 with his brother Pavel. Pavel settled in New York, and Stephan moved on to Brownfield, PA. He was married to Elizabeth Kollar (sister Julia, brother John). Elizabeth died in the influenza epidemic of 1918 at age 37, so we think she was born in 1881. We don't know if she was born here or in Europe. Any information on either of these names would be appreciated. The surname is now spelled Yenchick, a result of immigrations writing the name phonetically when grandfather did not understand English and couldn't spell it out. There's a small family group of Yenchicks here in the Detroit, Michigan area. Get in touch if you can help, or if you think anyone in our family line can help you!

Researching: JENCIK, YENCHICK
Searching for information on my grandfather, Stephan Jencik or his brother Pavel (Paul) Jencik. The name was spelled Yenchick by the immigration authorities when they came over to America during WWI. Pavel settled in the New York area, and Stephan settled in Uniontown, PA. and worked for many years in the coal mines. My father remembers him saying that the family was from a village or area known as Ungwar. He also thinks that Stephan and Pavel may have been landed gentry or aristocrats before their properties were confiscated during the war. Any info on this family name or close derivative, or on the Ungwar area will be greatly appreciated.
