My Dad was born in Bardejov. Slovakia on March 14,1904 His name was Josef
Gaydar (USA) and could have been spelled in Slovakia as Gajdar or Gajdahrosky.
He had a Brother named Edward and should be still Bardejov , if he is living.
He would be in his 80's There was a sister named Margeret who would be in her
70's. My name is Paul Gaydar and I am 67 living in the Chicago Area.
Originally my family were from Cleveland Ohio. When Dad came to the USA, he
settled in West Leisering Pa. near Uniontown. My Mother's family also came
Slovakia and their name was Marchin.

The Gedeon family is from Medzev in Eastern Slovakia near Kocise. I
have made several visits, beginning in 1974, and would like to share
information with others. The Gedeon families in Medzev were
German speaking. Many of the Gedeons emigrated to Cleveland.

I am researching: Sipula, Kradlakova, Pisarova (Pisar), and Jambrichova.
from the Telgart area of Austria-Hungary, now the Slovak Republic. Stefan
Sipula and his wife, Alzbeta Pisarova came to the US in 1904 on the
Notterdam into the Boston Harbor. They settled in Amsterdam Ohio. They
had 12 children that I know of. These have settled in Ohio, PA, and CA.

Researching: KURAN
Seeking information on Kuran surname. Brothers Michael (or Matthew), John
and Thomas (English versions of Slovak names) left Cimhova / Liesek in late
1800's or very early 1900's for the coal mines of Pennsylvania. John went
to Canada and the family lost tract of him. Thomas was electrocuted at
Moffit Sterling, Greene County, Pennsylvania in 1929. Their father, who had both
legs amputated at the knees, remained in Cimhova with another son. Are any
of these people in your family.

Researching Andrew Krivosika, born 1872, village of Brezovica, Saris
County, his Fathers name was Michael and his Mothers name was Julia Huda. I
think he had a brother named Henry. Also looking for Mary Chaco Krivosika,
born Feb. 15, 1879. Fathers name was Paul Chaco, and Mothers name was Mary
Saksa. I think they may also have come from the vicinity of Brezovica. All

1893. Married Anna Kallocsak in 1899. had six sons Steve, John, George,

I am looking to find any and all information on
my family. We came originally from Czechloslovakia and I have recently
learned my great grandparents town is on the Slovakia side.
My great grandfathers name was John Burin and my great grandmothers maiden
name was Anna Deiovich. My grandfather, Paul Joseph Burin was born in
Nadash -- Nudac -- Nudah. We are not sure of the spelling exactly. On his social
security application it is spelled Nadash. However, he may not have spelled
it correctly or he may have told it to someone and this is how they spelled

Researching: LESONDAK, SABOL, MUDRAK
I am interested in tracing the family name. My father Mihal Lesondak was
born in Osturna in 1903. He was had 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He
emigrated to Canada about 1930, then to Chicago where, in 1940 he
married Marie Sabol who emigrated from Svidnik about 1935. Two of his 3
brothers also emigrated to Chicago -Mitro and Sam- married to Julia
Mudrak. Mitro had two daughters and Sam had one son - George who now
lives in Downers Grove IL. The fourth brother John and his 2 sisters
stayed in Czechoslovakia- I think. While surfing the net, I found
another group of Lesondaks in Pennsylvania who appear to be the
offspring of John. Is John my fathers fourth brother? If so, I have many
living relatives who I do not know. My name is Edward Peter Lesondak and
I was born in 1947. My brother named Michael was born in 1940 and died
of cancer in 1967.

I live in Aylmer, Quebec, Canada. My brother Patrick (from Montreal) and
I, are looking for relatives in Slovakia. My grand parents, Elizabeth
Kadlecik and Anton Psenak, left Slovakia in the twenties and established
their home in Longueuil, on the south shore of Montreal. Their were from

Bozsak, Vansacs. The Gojdics family is related to Bishop Paul Gojdic.
The Janovics family was from Circ, Saris. It was a family of mainly Greek
Catholic priests and they were scattered all over eastern Slovakia. Maria
Janovics married Stephen Gojdics in 1857. Besides being priests, many of
the Janovich family were cantors, some judges. Any information would be

Researching: TOMKO, HUDACEK, HUDAK, POLLOCK, MIZLA, MILLER, DUBBS
Michael Tomko came to the USA in the 1880's-1890's along with wife and settled
in Finleyville, Pa. Joe Hudacek came about the same time, and settled in
Perryopolis, Pa, and rest of kids lived in Monessen, Pa or Donora, Pa. These
are my great-grandparents, and I would like any info anybody has on them to
get started; I'd especially like a town of origin. Also, Joe's name was Hudak
in America, which was changed from Hudacek on immigration; my grandparents
(Stephen and Mary) have their headstone in St Dominic Cemetery in Donora, Pa
with Hudacek on it, even though legally their name was Hudak. The Tomkos
worked in the coal mines and the Hudaks worked for US Steel in Donora. Any
info regarding them would be greatly appreciated. (other relative surnames are
Pollock, Mizla, Miller, Dubbs; they may have had spelling changed on entry
into USA also). The Dubbs were Bohemian.

Researching: NOVAK, CHORBA, CORBA
Searching for information in Slovakia about the names Novak, Chorba or
Corba. My Dad came over from Megges, Hanuchovce, near Presov in 1907 to
Streator, IL. As far as I know only his brother John Chorba Novak, and Dad,
Andrew Chorba Novak were the only members of his family to come to America.

I have researched my family name of Savely or Savel to a Michael Savely
born in Schavnik Spis Slovakia in 1754. His grandson, Michael moved to
Hranovnica, Spisska Zupa Slovakia, born in 1774 IN Schavnik. I have traced
my grandmothers family name of Sabo, Szabo back to a Josef Szabo who married a
Elizabeth Huszain in April 14, 1820 in Hranovnica. I have not been able to
find where Josef is from. If you have any information that could help me

Researching: KUKUCKA, DUNDA, LABUDA, SKORVAGOVA,

Most of these names are from the Klubina / Stara Bystrica area of Slovakia
(about 120 miles northeast of Bratislava). The oldest listing I have is for
a Stefan Kukucka from the mid-1700s. I am mainly interested in researching
the links between the Kukucka line. My grandfather and grandmother
immigrated to the U.S. in about 1912. The lived most of their lives in the

Researching: PASLAWSKY, DURICH, BADDICK, BADUG, KLECK, HONORADA,

I have begun to search for relatives' roots in Europe. Names include
Paslawsky & Durich (Anthony & Mary resepctively) Paternal Grandparents. Came
from Galicia ? Deedee had several brothers: John who came first, died young
in Coaldale Pa vicinity, Mike who still iives in Canada near Detroit MI, and
another Joseph, in or near Santa Fe (?) Argentina. Baba had one brother here
also in Coaldale PA: Victor and at least one sister with whom she coresponded
as late as the 1970's who was still in Europe.
Maternal Grandparents: Born in USA in the McAdoo / Audenried, PA area: Baddick
(or Badug) & Kleck (Andrew & Nora -- Honorada ---on the marriage certificate)
Married in 1907 at St. Kunegunda's McAdoo, PA. All parents from Europe:
Grandpap's parents were Martin Baddick (Badug?) and Anna Matlock (Matlach?).
Gram's were Frank Urban and Victoria Kleck. There was a story Gram told us
about some Aunt of hers: an Opera singer in Europe: Madame "Gluck...perhaps
Kleck. (or in Poland?) These relatives all primarily stayed in the Treskow,
Tamaqua, Tuscarora Pennsylvania areas. We are trying to determine our
family tree.

Researching Koosh and Zeirka (Ziro): John Koosh married to Helen Peto Koosh.
Formerly she was was married to John Palinkas. Lived in Nagibajos, Hungary, and
was born there 5/20/1896. I have no information on john. Joseph Ziro was
born in Boldva, Hungary, April 12th, 1888. Looking for any Petos or Koosh which
could be spelled as Koos' or Kos or Koch. After immigrating to this country
settled in Sharon, Pennsylvania. After the death of John Koosh she married
Joseph Ziro in 1944.

Researching: CERNIGA, TERNIAK, TERNICK, JANKANIC, SAPPE
Researching Cerniga, Terniak (Turnick-Americanized), and Jankanic.
My great-grandfather, Michael Cerniga, was born in 1869 in Kelsce, Zemplen,
Hungary (now eastern Slovakia). He was a coal miner who lived in Cairnbrook,
Pa. He died in 1954. He was married to Maria Jankanic, born in 1874 in
Ol'Sava, Slovakia. I have been to Kelsce and can provide a little information
to anyone who has genealogical links to this village. I am also interested in
hearing from anyone with knowlege of persons with these names. I have a
photograph of the village sign taken by a friend who went to Ukraine.
My grandfather Vasil Terniak who was born in 1896 in Uklina, Bereg, Hungary,
now part of Ukraine. He was also from Cairnbrook, Pa. He came as an orphan
with a family named "Sappe," according to information that has been passed
down. I would like to hear from anyone who may be connected to the "Sappe"
family. Vasil Terniak and Annie Cerniga were married in 1917 in Windber, Pa.

Researching: ZIMMERMAN
I am attempting to locate a Bertha (or Berta) Zimmerman (if she is still
alive) or possibly her children or grandchildren. She was raised in
Visny Tvarozec, which I believe is in the Slovak Republic. She was born
on 19 October 1919 and emigrated to the United States (I don't know to
where, yet; I am waiting to hear from Immigration Service) on 19 January

grandmother, Dorota Palyo Liptak arrived in the U.S. on two occasions, the

Researching: GAJDOS
My ggrandmother Dorata Gajdos I was told was from Caskita. I have had
trouble finding this on any map. I was also told that she was Slovak. I
have no way of proving this since all records I have located say she was
from Austria-Hungary, which is what the area now known as the Slovak Republic
was known as at the time. I do not know if this is the correct spelling of
the town she was from. She was born September 12, 1869 and immigrated to
the United States in 1886 at 17 years old. Her father's name was George Gajdos and
her mother's name Anna. Can you help me?

Stif Vince (Vincze?) emigrated to the US from Lusonc, Hungary (now
Luc~enec, Slovakia) circa 1905, leaving the port of Fiume aboard the
Cunard ship Carpathia. Helen Karcag Vince was believed to have
accompanied her husband, along with two children--Katie and Paul
Stephen. Veron Mary Biro emigrated to the US from Hungary with her husband Paul
Darabos circa 1902. They had one son Bela Darabos born in Bridgeport,
CT, and one daughter Margaret Darabos, born in Dayton, OH.
