I am searching for my grandmother's family. She immigrated to the US about 1906 from a small village called Mosovce, now located in the northwest part of the Slovak Republic. She married Joseph Brna, Jr., who immigrated with his parents and three other siblings about 1900 from an area a few miles north near the Sklabina castle. This area is near the city of Martin. My grandmother was Anna Svrcina, born 1/19/1892. Her sister Mary (born 3/14/1890) and mother Maria came to the US after my grandmother. Mary and Maria settled in Northern New Jersey.

Joseph was from Gomor Megye, Sankfalva, Hungary, which is now Gemerska Vas, southern Slovakia. Anna may have been from Pressburg, Pozsony Megye, Hungary...which is now Bratislava? Anna and her brother Martin changed their name to Rapp when they came to America. Anna's mother's last name was Sprela (Born abt 1865/1868). Joseph Baczuk's mother was Barbara (Borbola?) Balint (Born 1864, in Hungary). My father's maternal grandparents were Joseph Pucel (Born 28 Dec 1888) and Anna Bencic (Born 4 Mar 1887). Anna's father was John Bencic (Born Abt 1861) and her mother was Anna Plankar (Born Abt 1865). Joseph and Anna were married in Slovenia before they came to NYC on 23 Mar 1912. I am searching for information on my Slovak great-grandfather, John Misinco, born 1869 (Austria according to naturalization papers and death certificate) to Mary Murin and Peter Misinco. He was of the Byzantine Catholic faith. He married Veronica Burik, daughter of Anna Siminco and Michael Burik, who was also Slovak born Jan 25, 1885, in Austria and immigrated to US with her father and four sisters. Veronica was Roman Catholic. John and Veronica settled in Patton PA and John was a coal miner. I am researching the surname CHRISTINECK (could also be spelled Christinek). My Great Great Grandmother was Wilhelmine Christineck born 1786, who married Johann Christoph Lorf and they lived in Serno, Sachsen Anhalt, Germany. Wilhelmine's father came from 'Austria or Austro-Hungarian Empire' in the mid-1700's and escaped after a duel and lost his estate. My grandfather called my GGG Grandfather "Prince Christineck" and my GGGG Grandmother Princess Christina. I suspect they were from Czech or Slovakia.

My paternal grandparents were Andrew Mikula (b 05-22-1885) in Lopuchov, in NE Slovakia, and Anna Kralik/Sralik (b 05-27-1888) in Zelmanovce, also in NE Slovakia. His parents were Andrej and Maria Vilcek Mikula. Her parents were Jon and Anna Onderkova Sralik. My grandfather had one sibling we know of -- John Mikula. My grandmother had a brother Andrew Kralik (wives Mary and Anna), and two sisters: Mary Kralik Kmetz (wife of John), and Suzanna Kralik Vargo (wife of Andrew). All of these siblings of my grandparents came to the US in the early 1900's, and settled in Johnstown, PA, which is where I has born and raised. Most of the men were employed as steelworkers. Our family was Roman Catholic. Most of these people belonged to St. Stephen's Church in Johnstown, which was the largest Slovak Catholic Church in the US in the 1940's and 50's. I would like to find out if our family has any relatives in Slovakia, possibly other siblings of my grandparents. I would like to trace our family tree back as far as possible. My maternal grandparents were John and Mary Yurasko Selep (no dates or places of birth), who came to the US in the early 1900's and settled in Johnstown, PA. He worked as a steelworker. They belonged to St. Mary's Greek Catholic Church, but later changed to the Russian Orthodox Church. His parents were John and Martha Sivulka Selep. Her parents were John and Katherine Hulvey Yurasko. John Selep had one sister and one brother: Veronica (wife of Dmitri Haschak) and Nicholas (husband of Helen Lichvar). Mary Yurasko Selep had these brothers and sisters who emigrated to the US: George (husband of Mary Smandra), Johnstown, PA; Anna Yurasko Matolyak (wife of John); Cleveland, OH; Velma Yurasko Voloschuk (wife of Michael), Cleveland, OH; Theresa Yurasko Pavlik (wife of Pete), Chicago, IL. Theresa and Pete Pavlik owned an apartment building in Chicago. They made several trips to Slovakia in the 1960's. My grandmother also had several siblings who never came to the US: Antonia Bilak (wife of Michael), Agnes Zima (wife of Adam), Peter Yurasko, and Joseph Yurasko. I have found Mihaly Almasi And Anna Uban Almasi was parents of my greatgrandfather Andras Almasy . he also had two younger brothers Sandor(b.1862) and Josef(b.1866). Researching: KULAN, KERNASOVICH
Seeking information about Andrew Kulan, born Nov.30,1888 probably in or near the small town of Papin in eastern Slovakia. Married Suzanna Kernasovich and lived in Pennsylvania in 1912. Researching: KADAK, KADAKOVA, PODKRIVACKY
My grandmother was Veronica Kadakova, married to Tomas Podkrivacky. The Kadak family is from the village of Velke Rovne. I do not know her parents or any other ancester's names. I believe her father or her uncle was Andrei Kadak. She had a brother Pavel Kadak, and her oldest son was Josef Podkrivacky, both immigrating to the United States , Josef around 1901. (He was my father.) The other children were: Louis, Anna, Milan, Franz, Ludmila, and Stefania. All are deceased.
