Both my parents are orphans and have almost no
information regarding family history other than the fact that their parents
were born in Slovakia. My parents, Andrew Kavulich and Margaret Keppick, were
both born in l9l9 in Taylor, Pennsylvania. I will provide more data regarding
genealogy as it becomes available. My doctoral dissertation in Communications from the Annenberg School of the

and Slovak cultural and migration patterns. Some history of Scranton and
Binghamton is also included in this ethnographic study of Irish and Slovak
Catholic parishes and their patterns of creating and maintaining sacred

Researching: TONGEL
I have been trying to reconstruct our
family tree. My grandfather, Joseph Steven Tongel and his brother Steven are
the only two Tongels that I knew came to the USA. They came to the USA in
1904. My grandfathers brother (Steve) was listed on the 1910 census as coming from
Austria Slovenia. My grandfather, Joseph Steven on his marriage application
noted that he came from Hungary.
I know that my grandfather had a least one brother who remained in the
Austrian Hungarian Empire in 1904. My grandfather returned to Europe around
1907 and was taken into the Germany Army (I have a copy of his military pass)
which states ---Ort miesto -- Czirokaleela (this spelling is questionable)
Komitat stolica -- Zemplein.
I have been able to locate one Tongel name in Slovakia on the internet. His
name is Pavol Tongel and his address is listed as: 24 Bernolakova, 953 01
Zlate Moravce, okr. Nitra -- no phone listed. How can I pursue this further?
I am anxious to find any information to help fill in the missing parts of our
family tree . Any help would be greatly appreciated.
