Researching: DUFALA, DUFFALA, FERENCE, FERENCZ, FERENCY
I am looking for the Dufala, Duffala, Ference, Ferencz, and Ferency names. My grandmothers maiden name was Franks, anglicized from Ferencz, Ference, Ferency. No one in the family knows the exact spelling. My grandfather, born in Austro-Hungaria, immigrated to the US in 1906-1915. My grandmother was born in the US but my great-grandparents immigrated from the same. Any help would be appreciated. My name is Karen A. S. Dufala-Morrison. I don't know it I can add to your pages but I can pass on some info I've gotten from Harvard, Czech Embassy and such. My grandfather immigrated to the Pennsylvania, USA area from the then Austro-Hungarian Empire. I requested a copy of the marriage certificate from the parish which they were married in. The Father sent me a copy of the marriage certificate and also added some information he thought I might like to know since he knew I was researching my roots. My grandfather was born in, and I quote the writing of the parish Father, "Csires, C. Saros". Now, given the fact he was only in the States for a few years he literally wrote what he could remember. I later found out that Saros was, in fact, Saris, and that Csires was, and I quote a scholar from Harvard, C^irc^, or Cheer-esh/Chir-esh depending on your interpretation. Yet, my grandfather claimed he was born in Presov. When he immigrated to this country he became a coal miner in southwestern Pennsylvania. I would assume that was what his family did in C^irc^. I'm still searching. My grandfather and I were especially close, being his favorite grandchild and he had quite a few, and when he died when I was 14 I was devastated. Since that time I have changed my name to reflect his and where he came from. Therefore, please do not be surprised at my signature. Maybe this can help someone else.

My grand-parents Adam Miskar and Judith ??? emigrated to the United States around 1910 - my mother was born on the 8th January 1914 in Youngstown (Ohio) - but they came back to Lubina (Slovakia) where my mother was recorded on the 12th April 1917. Lubina is near Novi Mesto nad Vahom (Trencin). Adam Miskar was born in 1875 an Judith in 1879. Any further information (name of my grand-mother, parents and relatives of both grand-ma and 'pa, precise date and location of birth...) would be greatly appreciated. My mother Miskar Alzbeta was born on the 8th January 1914 in Youngstown (Ohio, USA) from Adam and Judith Miskar (there is an accent on the S), but she never could get a birth certificate from the Department of Health of Ohio. Apparently, she never was recorded there, but I do have an old paper (in bad shape) in slovak on which is written "Krstny-List" with a stamp of the "John Hus Slovak Lang. Augsburg Confession Congregation" and established on the 11th January 1914. Two names: Pavel Zabka and Zuzanna Zabka (there is an accent on the Z) are under the words "Krestni Rodicia". A 3rd name under "Uradne svedci" is Rev. Juraj Roh (ev. a.v. farar Youngstownsky). I do not know what all this means. I would be very happy of receiving any information about 1. the translation 2. who are Pavel and Zuzanna Zabka and 3. the slovak community in
Youngstown at the time.

Researching: PANKO, MICHALEGKO
We believe our Grandmother and possibly our Grandfather came to the United States from Turka. We have church records from the late 1880's, but little information beyond these documents. They arrived at Ellis Island between 1910 and 1912, settling in Auburn, New York and finally in Mayburg, Pennsylvania. Can you offer any insight into records from the Turka / Galicia region? Possibly from the Greek Catholic (St. Michael's) Church from this district? We are researching our Grandparents who came to the United States arriving at Ellis Island between 1910 and 1912. They were married in Auburn, New York (we have numerous wedding pictures taken at a photography studio in Auburn). The photos feature a very large wedding party with all of the individuals being unknown to us. The name Panko is familiar to our family. They were our Grandparents best friends in this country. We believe they came from the same town/district in eastern europe. The Panko Family we understand settled in the Olean, New York area. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Also, does the surname Michalegko (sp.) sound familiar? We're keeping our fingers crossed.

My grandparents were John (Kozic) Kozich and Mary (Maria) Tyrpak (Tirpak) Kozich of Midvale (Coal Ridge), Plains Twp., PA just outside of Wilkes-Barre. From what I can make out they were married in the province of Slovenska. They were both from Kochsinovce (This may be horribly misspelled). John had brothers George, Andrew, Michael who also lived in the same vacinity in Pennsylvania. Two Sisters- Elizabeth (Kozich) Wallace and Mary (Kozich) Melnitski (or something of that spelling) Manarek. They also lived in the area in Pennsylvania. Mary Tirpak had brothers John of Dunora, PA, Andrew of Canada. A sister, Anna, and a brother George remained in the homeland. Mary's father was supposedly a burgess of the town/village and the had a large farm. Any help or information regarding possible relatives or persons with knowledge of the area from which they came (Austria-Hungary, Carpathian Mts. is believed to be the origin) would be appreciated.
