I would like to post my surname, Janostak. It has also been spelled "Janostyak and Janoscak" fron Oravsky Biely Potok. They were in Biely Potok in about 1840. I am unsure of where they were located prior to that time. Some family members relocated to Ft. William/Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada in the 1890s. John Janostak married Veronica Adamcak. They had 4 children that I know of born in or around Biely Potok. Katherine, John, Stefan and Mary. The sons, John & Stefan emigrated to Canada in the 1890s. Stefan is said to have made several trips back to Slovakia. John & his wife Rose (Janik) were visiting Slovakia, when their 3rd child was born. Her name was Anne Janostak & she was born on January 23, 1907. - Veronica Adamcak I have no dates or info other than the name. Rose (Roza) Janik married John Janostak in Ft William, Ontario, Canada on October 24, 1898. Rosa was born on June 15, 1878. She was born "somewhere in Hungary". Researching: KLINOWSKI, KLINOVSKY, KLINOVSKI. KLINOWSKY, LATTAL, LATAL
Looking for family members with the following surnames: Klinowski, Klinovsky, Klinovski, or Klinowsky. Lattal or Latal (married F. Lattal or Latal )in 1906 My family lines are traced back to the 1900's in Chicago and Cleveland. I would love to find out where in the Austrian-Hungarian Empire my Great grandmother was born. I have read and copied the ship's manifest, but no one at the Church of Latter-Day Saints in Utah was able to read the writing. The names listed above are variations of our surname being used in the past 100 years. The 3 US census states family origins being in this order: Hungarian, Austrian, and Slovak. Marriage license and children's birth certificates did not list a country nor did they ever become citizens of the US. I am at a dead end with no leads. Because of privacy, some death and birth certificates will not be released. They were Roman Catholics and the church records only noted the marriage and baptismal dates. My only hope is that someone recognizes our surnames.

Researching: CHERVENAK, SCHZIRANKA, SIMKO, KMETZ
Searching for Chervenak, Simko, Schziranka, and Kmetz. Trying to get my genealogy back further. Most of these families seem to have been of the Byzantine faith. My grandmother was Anna Chervenak (spellings vary). Her parents were Janos Csevenyak and Maria Schziranka of Durdos (Gyorgos). Janos's father was Janos Cservenak listed on record as from Gzyzdozowa, Slovkia (could this be Grodin?) I can't find that one on any map. His mom seems to have been named Anna Simko (tough to read the marriage record from the 1850's) and she was from Durdos as well. At that time it was the Hungarian town of Gyorgos. All seem to be from Saros, (which had been Zemplen of the Hungarian rule) My grandmother's mother, Maria Schiranka, had as parents George Szhiranka and Anna Kmetz... no place known.. but probably around Durdos. If anyone connects, give me an e'mail. Or please contact me if can anyone has a suggestion or intuition that may prove useful.
