I'm a beginner to genealogy and Slovakia, but beginners have to begin
somewhere. We are trying to locate the origins of my mother's father's
line, Slovak speakers who emigrated to Nesquehoning, Carbon County,
Pennsylvania circa 1870. The family name is Nester. THe only information
we have for now is that a Luke Nester from the city of Maniow (or Maniv)
in the country of Galicia. Married to a Anna Dromczak. Yet, I understand
that Galicia was actually part of present-day Poland. Does anyone have
any leads? Thank you.

I am searching my father's family ( Joseph Paul Krajnak ) and my mother's
family (Mary Theresa Lesicko ).
My father was born on December 20,1895 in Bardejov, Slovakia (then under
Hungarian rule). He migrated to the United States on the ship Niagara
through Ellis island. My father volunteered to fight in the Slovak Army
under General Milan Stefanik. My father volunteered to fight so as to
bring about a free country of Slovakia. He fought in one of the worst
battles in World War I, the battle of Verdun, France. The batle of Verdun
started in January 1916 and ended June 1916 with more than 1,000,000 men
killed in this action. After the war ended, my father came back to America
and sent for my mother.
My mother was born on August 2, 1899 in Bardejov, Slovakia (under Hungarian
rule ). My mother arrived in this country through Ellis island in July
1920. My father and my mother were married in September 1920 in Yukon,
Pennsylvania. This marriage produced four children-Margaret, Joseph, John
and George.
My father went to eternal rest on March 13, 1960. My mother passed away
January 4, 1996 at the age of 96. I am corresponding with cousins in
Bardejov on my father's side of the family and with cousins on my mothers
side of the family.
I would like more information and past family of both families. I have my
fathers uniform that I want to donate to the Slovak museum in Middletown,
Pa. and I also have a huge picture (4' X 6' ) of volunteers of the
Southwestern Pennsylvania area to donate. In order to donate any items to
the museum they must be accompanied by some information besides the donors.
I would appreciate any information concerning the Krajnak and Lesicko
families in Bardejov, Slovakia in Saris Zupa.I would like also to receive
any information concerning the Slovaks involvement in World War I,
especially in France. Thank You for your good work.
