Researching: LEDVAK, SAXA, PAVLUVCIK, MILLER, JACKSON, HOWIE, MCGUIRE
Hello, I am searching for info on my great-grandparents, Stephen Ledvak and Julia Saxa. They emigrated from Slovakia in the early 1900s, 1911 or before. My grandmother, Margaret Ledvak, was the only child of eight to be born in the US. The rest were born in Slovakia. They ended up in Scranton (Lackawanna County), PA. I have a very strong feeling that this family was from Brezovica, as I came across an Anna Ledvak on the internet that was from Brezovica, who immigrated to the US in 1907 and died in Bridgeport (Fairfield County), CT in 1916. She was married to John Pavluvcik. Don't know for sure if she was related to my g-grandfather, but I have a strong feeling that she was, as all of the Ledvaks that I found on the Social Security Death Index are direct descendants of my great-grandparents. The eight children of my great grandparents were: Frances (a spinster), Julia (m. Steve Miller), Martha (m. to Mr. Jackson), Helen (a spinster), Stephen Jr. (m. to Sally), Emil (m. to Mary), Irene (m. to Richard "Dick" Howie) and my grandmother, Margaret, who m. Harold (christened Michael) McGuire. If anyone has any info they could share with me, please e-mail me. Thank you.

Researching: NARRETER
Could you help me? I am looking for the origin of the first name "Felizitas". Is it a common spelling in Slavic or German for the first name "Felicity"? Also, I am searching for the origin of the surname Narreter. Could you help? Thanks. (Editor's Note: "Felizitas" is certainly not a "common" name in The Czech Republic, or Slovakia, but is not unusual and is the same root as "Felicity" in that language. It is derived from the Latin "felicitas" and related to the English word, "felicitation", all of which mean " happiness", "best wishes" or "good feelings", such as in the expression, "Greetings and felicitations.")

Researching: MAKOVEC, MESAROS, FORGAC, KAPERAK
I'm doing some searching on four relatives: Makovec, Mesaros, Forgac and Kaperak. I believe that all came from Slovakia or Czechoslovakia. Three cities that we know of are Brutovce Spic, Beharovce Spic, Zemplinska, Zemplinske or Zemplinsky Zupa. I am not sure if Spic or Zupa means anything. Andrew and Michael Makovec came to the US around 1909 - 1912. Elizabeth Forgac came over around 1908 through New York and settled in Johnstown, PA before locating in Youngstown, Ohio. Steve Kaperak came to the US with his dad, Peter, and settled in Struthers, OH. How would I search birth records? Do any exist during that period? How do I find records on the landings in New York? Are there any internet search addresses? Thanks.

My wife is the former Debra Ann Kolesar. Debbi's father's name is Edward Coleman Kolesar, from Uniontown, PA. Ed's father's name was Joseph Kolesar, and his grandfather's name was George Kolesar. In searching through your Stanislav family tree, I have found a connection with my wife's family. John Stanislav, b. 1869 in Koterbach, married Mary Kolesar, b. 1866 (I assume in Koterbach). Mary Kolesar is the above-mentioned George Kolesar's sister. I know that George Kolesar was born around 1860 (probably in Koterbach) and married a Katherine (last name unknown, also presumably from Koterbach). They immigrated to Uniontown, PA, and had 8 children: Joseph, Nick, Mike, John, Steve, Margaret, Mary, and Katherine. Could you please see if any of your immigration records or Koterbach census records mention George Kolesar and his wife Katherine? I would be ever grateful for any additional knowledge about the Kolesar family from Koterbach. The 1831 Census of Koterbach lists a Ondrej Kolesar. Does anyone know the connection between him and George? I would be ever grateful for any additional knowledge about the Kolesar family from Koterbach.

Researching: MACJEC, MATSEY, ALVAKA, JANESKO
I am trying to locate information on my grandfather George Maczej. I'm not sure of the spelling of his last name as it was changed to Matsey when he came to the United States (around 1893?). I have a Greek Catholic Baptism Certificate that shows his year of birth as 1876. I believe that the church is in the town of Hivatalos which I found on the internet as being in Hungary. His parent's names were Mikaly (?) Maczej and Anna Alvala (?). It is hard to read the writing on the certificate. When my grandfather came to the United States he eventually settled in Pennsylvania and married my grandmother Catherine Janesko in 1902. They had 7 children who they raised in Alverton, Pennsylvania. If anyone can help me with this information I would really appreciate it. My mother has passed away and my living aunt and uncle are eldery and can't recall my grandfather's information.
