Researching: KASCAK, KASCHAK, JANOSKO, YENCHO, PAPAI
How do I go about learning of my Father's ancestry. His name was George Kascak, born in Vysny Hrusov, okres Humene, Zemplin. His parents were John Kascak & Mary Kascak (yes, they were related,1st cousins in fact). My father George was born there on May 2, 1886 (or 1887), baptized in Sts. Peter & Paul Church (the old one, of course; the modern building was dedicated on June 29th, 1973) probably a week or two later. John Kascak was from Jablonka. My mother Anna Janosko Kascak (Kaschak) was born in Torona (Trna) in Zemplin on Dec. 12th, 1888. Her father was George Janosko; her mother was Anna (maiden name???) Janosko. Anna had an older sister Mary, and a younger brother, George. George died at approximately age six. Mary emigrated to the United States marrying Mike Yencho, living in Illinois with there five children. Mary died in 1930 in Illinois. Anna's father George, died and her mother married Mr. Papai. My father George emigrated to the U.S. in March, 1905. My mother, Anna Janosko Kaschak (Kascak) came to the U.S. in 1905 or shortly thereafter. My question is: how can I learn more about my parents while in Slovakia. Also, what should I do to learn more about my grandparents?

An Uskert that I've met via internet mentioned hearing about Uskerts going back to 1509 in Brehy. But it all seems to be hearsay and vague memories, ...I want facts! So many questions. So few answers. Please let me know if you can help. Even the smallest bit of information would be a welcomed delight. Thank you very much.

Researching: FUHRER, BERKOWITZ
We have are looking for any information on Fuhrer family, alive or dead. There were originally twelve brothers born in and around Njarasfalva, Austria Hungary from 1887 to 1907. Three brothers came to the USA, - Joseph, Aaron and Jack. Aaron was my father. He married Rose Berkowitz in New York City in either 1914, 1915 or 1916. Rose was from Beregszazz, Austria-Hungary. They were living on east 16th Street in New York on March 27, 1917 when their first daughter, Ida Fuhrer, was born. Joseph Fuhrer left for Illinois in approximately 1937, and we never heard from him again. Jack died in 1942 in New Jersey. We do not know what happened to the remaining 9 brothers and their families. We had heard that they went to Auschwitz from Uzhgorod, Czechoslavakia, (now in the Ukraine). Would there be any records in a Synagogue in this area. Aaron Fuhrer died in 1964 never knowing what became of his family. Aaron had remarried, and his second wife kept all of his papers including Naturlization papers, etc. When she died, the papers were lost. We would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have information on the Fuhrer Family, including the origin of the name. Thank you for all your help.

Researching: FERENCIK, PAVUK, HERCEG
Researching for information on siblings of my father, Frantisek Ferencik (1/12/1890 - 12/8/1934), all born in Bojnicky, Slovakia of my grandparents Frantisek Ferencik (born 1/28/1857, date of death unknown) and Ursula Pavuk (birth date unknown, died about 1950). They married about 1882 in Bojnicky. The siblings are Ludevit, born 5/23/1895; Justinia, born 9/3/18 91; Maria, born 8/14/1888; and Anastazia, born 10/22/1893. The data on my father Frantisek and his brother Stefan (8/15/1884 - 12/24/1963) is already known. Perhaps some of these siblings or their children emigrated to the U.S. as did Frantisek and his brother Stefan. My father Frantisek entered the U.S. in 1913 and married Sidonia Herceg in Binghamton, NY on 11/2/1914 and then lived in Endicott, NY. I have a Ferencik family genealogy from Martin Ferencik, born 1720, died 9/1/1780 the great, great, great grandfather of these siblings and my father Frantisek Ferencik, directly from the state archives in Brataslava.

Researching: BATIK, BATYIK, BALUHA
The information written hear is from old memories, so names and dates may not match. My grandfather John John Batyik imigrated around 1890. Batyik is the name found in some old school books, however, we believe the name may have been Baluha or something similar. He maried Barbara (?) in Slovakia ( then Hungary ) and had a daughter Vera (about 1895). They were from Hrapko Village which was somewhere in far eastern Slovakia. I think the biggest close city was Kovice ( or something like that). The family settled in Byesville, Geurnsey county, Ohio. He was a coal miner in the USA. As the family story goes, eventually brothers Joseph and Gabriel imigrated, but Gabriel returned to Europe around the start of WWI. Somehow so the story goes, brother Joseph " got in trouble" which prompted my grandfather to change the spelling of our name to Batik. John Batik died in 1927 and Barbara in 1956. My father had 4 sisters. The surviving sister, Frances, still lives in Ohio. That's about all I know, Can anyone help?

Researching: STEFANIK, BAHRO, MACHAC, VALASEK, VOJTKO, PAVLINI
I am searching both my maternal and paternal families. My maternal grandfather, Paul Stefanik, was born in Luky okrs Puchov on December 14, 1913. His parents were Stefan and Anna (nee Bahro). His grandfather was mayor of their town, Luky, for about 18 years. My grandfather's family immigrated to Canada in 1937. My grandfather had two sisters, Katusha (Katherine) who married Jan Valasek and remained in Slovakia; and Susie who immigrated to Canada with the family. He had two brothers, Steve and John, who both immigrated to Canada. They all settled in the Alvinston/Inwood area in Ontario. My great-grandmother's brother, ? Bahro immigrated to Canada in the 20's first going out west and then settling in the Alvinston area. He acted as a "real estate" agent aiding other immigrating Slovak families locate and purchase farms. Many families would stay with him until they found and bought a farm. My grandfather married Zuzana Machac who came from Lazy (born April 11, 1914). She was the only one of her family to immigrate to Canada. Her mother's name was Eva and she had at least one sister, Tonka and I believe two brothers. My father's parents, John and Anna (nee Pavlini) Vojtko immigrated to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada along with their two daughters, Vlasta and Martha, in the early 1930s. My father was born in 1932 and when he was about 1 year old, he and his family returned to their village, Bela pre Martin. My father later returned to Canada (in the mid to late 1940s), the rest of his immediate family remained in Slovakia. I would very much like to hear from anyone who might have information regarding my family or who may be related to the above families.
