Researching: KRAVARIK
My mother, Elizabeth, was born in Pusta Ves, a very small village in Western Slovakia located in the Male Carpathian Mountains to a family named Kravarik in 1919. She came to the United States in 1939 where she married my father who was from Bucarest, Roumania. I was very fortunate to visit the village in 1992 and meet my mother's sister Suzanna, and families. I would like to find out more about the area as far as history and the origin of my mother's family name (Kravarik). My daughter and I would like to visit the area very soon again. Thank you for your help.

Researching: KARDOHELY
My mother's maiden name is Kardohely and we were told that it is of Slovak, Hungarian, or Czech derivation. However, I have been trying to find an answer for at least 10 yrs. My mother's father past when she was young and had no ties to his family, therefore oral family history is impossible to attain. If any one could shed some light or knows of anyone with this last name please contact me. Also, I do know after they arrived in the United States they settled in Clearfield County.Pa. in a town near Morrisdale, once called Locklom. They may have arrived sometime between 1880-1900. Thank you in advance for any help you may give me.

Researching: MASIK, HAJDUK
My grandfather Aleksander Masik was born in Jaroslavl, Poland. My father (Leon Joseph Masik), who was born in St. Louis, Missouri April 13, 1910 because his parents (Joseph Masik and Victoria Hajduk Masik) were there at the time, was raised in Lezajsk, Poland, the ancestral home town of his mother. My father Leon always said the name Masik (pronounced Mah' sheek) was really of Czech background. His living sister Helena Masik Martula, still living in Lezajsk, agrees that her father told her that. Since Czechoslovakia was the name of the country for so long, Czech could just as well have been Slovak. Through the internet I have found many people of the same last name Masik who are of Slovak origin. Jan Orlovsky said that the "ik" ending would more certainly indicate the Slovak rather thana Czech connection ("ek"). Jaroslavl is in southeastern Poland in the Rzeszow region. Its proximity to Slovakia is outstanding. I would like to know if 1) Masik (Mah' sheek) could be of Slovak origin and 2) records are available on the name to find what I believe is my Slovak connection. Any help you can give me in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Researching: CZISMARCZIK, PASZTHY, PAPP, WILDNER, ODUSCHOVA, PODILINSKA, NOVAK
My grandmother's parents, Martin Czismarczik and Juliana Paszthy, died in 1886 and 1887 respectively, in Spisska Nova Ves (Iglo) and left four young daughters under the age of eight. They were Emilia Maria b. 1879, Anna b.1881, Emy Juliana b, 1883 and Margita b. 1885. I would like to find out who raised these girls until three of them immigrated to New York City between 1892 and 1901. The other daughter Emy Juliana died in 1898 (age 15) in Spisska Nova Ves (Iglo). When she died, a
photograph of her, in her coffin surrounded by several men, women and children was taken, and sent to her surviving sisters in NYC. I think these people may have been Czismarczik's, Papp's, Wildner's or Oduschova's or possibly Jan and Maria (Podilinska) Novak family. Does anyone recognize these names and possibly be able to help me identify the family who raised my grandmother and her sisters. Xerox copies of the funeral picture are available.
