Researching: LEDVAK, SAKSA, SEKERAK, PAVLUVCIK
I am searching for the Ledvak family that came from Brezovica, Slovakia (near Presov) about the 1880s. They ended up first in Bridgeport, Connecticut USA and then Scranton, Pennsylvania USA. Stefan Ledvak married Juliana Saksa in Bridgeport about 1887 or 1888. Andrew Ledvak married Catherina also about 1887 or 1888 in Bridgeport. Frances Ledvak was married to Joseph Sekerak and they also lived in Bridgeport. Anna Ledvak Pavluvcik came to Bridgeport with her husband, John Pavluvcik, around 1907. Anna died there in 1916. The Saksa family is probably from Bratislava. Juliana and Mary Saksa were the daughters of George Saksa. They moved to in the 1880s, also. This is all the information I have. It has been said that some of the Ledvak family went back to Slovakia. Does anyone know of these families Are there any members of the Ledvak family still in Brezovica? Thank you.

Researching: KASUBA, MEHALIK
I am looking for records that pertain to my paternal grandparents. They are listed as being from "Krasno, Slovakia" and on other documents as being from just "Czechoslovakia". George J. Kasuba, born: circa 1875 in "Krasno", married Anna C. Mehalik, born: July 26, 1879 in "Krasno", father: Andrew Mehalik. We estimate they may have been married circa 1895-1898, probably in or near Krasno. George was a farmer in the US but family stories say that he also served in the Prussian or Austrian army as a chef in the unit that served the "Czar". That would have been about 1890, we think. We also think George had a least one brother, John, with whom he immigrated to the US. Any information would be greatly appreciated about their marriage, parents, and siblings. This would allow us to complete another generation in my family tree and link them to the European side of the ocean.

I am researching my husband's paternal grandparents. His grandfather was John Kolarick, born in 1883, died in 1971. We were told he came from Czechslovakia, but not if it was Czech Republic or Slovakia region, & don't know when he came to the US, but probably at turn of the century. He married Veronica Petrusko or Vargo, we do not know her maiden name for sure. Were just given these names by a cousin. We also don't know if she was born in US or Slovakia. She was born in 1890's. They lived in Ebervale, Pennsylvania, near Hazleton, in Luzerne County. He was probably a coal miner as there are strip mines there. They had 12 children, my father-in-law the 4th or 5th. Their names are: Elizabeth, Anna, Stephen, John, Joseph, Mary, Thomas, Veronica, Paul, Pauline, Catherine, & Robert. Grandfather was also Lutheran, but Grandmother was probably Catholic, not sure if Roman or Greek. Don't know what churches they attended. We are trying to locate the area in Czech Republic and/or Slovakia that these surnames originated from. If any one has any help or suggestions they can give, it will be greatly appreciated. We don't know if either of them had any siblings or whether there were other relatives that came from Europe, etc. Also as far as we know this is the only spelling of the surname, it was never changed, etc. If anyone knows anything that can help us out there, please e-mail me. Thank you in advance for your help.

Researching: CERNIK
I am interested in any information regarding the surname Cernik which was my grandmother's maiden name. I am especially interested in areas of geographic concentration where the name may occur in Slovaka. Are there any towns or villages where the name is especially prevalent?

Researching: PUTKA
I am searching for relatives with the surname of Putka. My grandfather is John Putka. His father was Michael Putka who had a cousin John Putka. Our research found that their birthplace could have been Brezovica or Brezovice. I am not sure of the spelling. We are interested in hearing from all Putkas' or those who have any information on the Putka family.
