Researching: BASSARAB, BOSSERAB
I was born with the name Bosserab (I think it a misspelling) but I was raised with
quite another name. I would like to know my heritage. I have a love for a lot of
European influences, culture and style. Apparently my father, John
Bosserab/Basserab, came to Canada, married near Ottawa and had 5 girls
and one boy. J. Bosserab is now deceased. I was the only one in the family to be
adopted out. (No one knows why.) This has left me with many unanswered
questions. My biological brother and sisters do not want to know me. I would at
least like to settle the question about my heritage so I can pass on this
information to my sons and grandchildren. This is of paramount importance
to me. I would appreciate all the help you can give as to where this name
originates and is settled today. I have found out so far that this is a proud
name-one to be respected. Please help. Thank you from London Ontario.

Researching: SMITHKA, SCHNITSKA, SNITSKA, SNITZKE, TAUBE
I am trying to find information pertaining to my great grandparents, Louis
Schnitzka/Smithka and Frances Taube whom I believe came from around
Prussia. The only information I have on them is listed below. I am wanting to
corroborate a possibility that they emigrated to the USA around 1870
eventually settling in Minnesota and being naturalized around 1880. It is
hard to pin down emigration as their name is spelt differently every time I
find a mention of them. 1. Louis Francis1 Schnitzka - He married Frances
Taube, daughter of Taube. Frances was born 18 September 1849 in
Germany, and died 26 May 1922 in Hennepin County MN USA. Notes
for Frances Taube: Informant of death was Gertrude Snitska, address
604 11th Avenue. Burial: 29 May 1922, Shakopee, MN; cause of death:
acute cardiac dilatation with contributory myocarditis and hypertension.
Children of Louis Schnitzka and Frances Taube are: 1. Joseph Frank2
Snitske, birth 25 March 1892, (Chaska) Shakopee, MN; death 19 August
1948, St. Cloud Hospital, Stearns County, MN. 2. Elizabeth Snitske, birth
1890; death possibly 1940 in Hennepin. 3. Gertrude Snitske, birth 28
February 1893, Shakopee, MN; death 16 February 1961; married James
Setter. 4. Lillian Snitske, birth 1884, MN; married Bronson. Generation
No. 2 Joseph Frank2 Snitske (Louis Francis1 Schnitzka) was born 25 March
1892 in (Chaska) Shakopee, MN, and died 19 August 1948 in St. Cloud
Hospital, Stearns County, MN. He married Gertrude H. O'Donnell, daughter

Researching: COPENECH
I came across this site, and hope that someone can help me to find
information regarding my paternal great grandfather, Frederick Copenech.
If you cannot help, someone may be able to advise me to another research
source. My great grandfather was born in Fiume in 1857. Very little
knowledge is available through my family, regarding when he came to
Australia. It is thought that his surname may have been Anglicized at some
time to Copenech, though this is not certain. Maybe someone can advise as
to what the name may have been derived from, as I can find no reference to
the name on my international searches. We have always believed the Fiume
was in Austria, though recently I found that this is possibly not so. His father,
I believe, was named Stephen William, and Stephen's wife's name was
Hannah. They would have been married in Fiume or thereabouts, I assume.
I don't know whether they came to Australia. I would appreciate any
information/guidance you may be able to offer. Thanking you in advance
for your time. Colleen Elliott, 68 Froude St., Inverell, NSW 2360, Australia.

My grandfather John (Jano, Johahn, Janos) Galisin probably Ruthenian,
was born in Medzilaborce, present day Slovakia about 1878. He married
Ila (Julia or Ilona) Lucska about 1907 in Medzilaborce in the Greek Church.
We believe he came to Ellis Island on September 15, 1909 on the
President Lincoln sailing out of Hamburg (Line #10 as Jano Galisin) to
live with his brother Mihaly (Michael) Galisin in Port Reading, NJ. The
1910 census confirms he was living alone as a border with his brother
Michael Galisin. The 1920 census states his daughter (my mother Anna)
3 years 6 months old and my uncle Michael 11 years old, are living with him
now, but not his wife Ila (Ilona, Julia) - why? My mother says her mother
died when she was about 3 years 6 months old in about 1919 at Elizabeth
General Hospital, Union County, NJ. We don't know where she is buried in
the Avenel-Perth Amboy area of Middlesex County, NJ. As we need the
exact spelling of first and last names. I have a baptism certificate of my
mother which shows her mother's maiden name of Ilona Lucska was born
in the village of Ruskocz, Zemplen County which we believe is the village
next to Medzilaborce presently called Roskovce. Can anybody confirm this?
Would he and his wife who joined him about 1912/13 needed a travel
document/permission of some sort to emigrate and where is it located?

Researching: SEREDAY, TESINSKY
My husband, William John Tesinsky, now is deceased. Grandfather,
George Tesinsky, Sr., came from this area. He came to United States in 1896
Susan Sereday came a few years later. She was from Zlatnik, Czechoslovakia.
They were married in 1901, at Passaic, NJ. My son is very interested in
his heritage. Is there anything you could tell me about this family, here
in the states there aren't to many of them left. George and Susan had seven
children, all of whom have passed, and there wasn't a lot of grandchildren.
My son is married now and has a son of his own, but we only know two
others in the family that can keep there name going. Anything would be great. Visit the Ancestry.com

Researching: FERREBEE, VEREBELY
From where in Hungary, could my great grandfather have fled with 2 brothers?
The last name was changed in spelling to Ferrebee. After having spoken to a
person from Hungary, he feels the original spelling could well have been
Verebelyi due to the fact that there is no double "e" in Hungarian. Because no
one would speak of (or knew) why the 3 brothers came to the USA possibly
between 1850 to 1860. Although it was common knowledge that it was Hungary
from whence they came, I've always been interested all my adult life where the
possible origins of the "Verebelyi" ="Ferrebee" could have been. What do
you think? I love mysteries and this is the biggest because it probably will
never be truly answered. Visit the Ancestry.com
