I am researching the name Germick. My great-grandfather, Andrew, came
from the small village of Kurima in Saris county, about halfway between
Presov and Bardejov. I have also spoken to a Slovak-American priest who
claims that there are Germicks in a village called Mernik. All the
Germicks are now gone from Kurima, but I am told parish records are
intact. I am also looking for Ivancho. My other great-grandfather was
Andrew, who immigrated from Austria-Hungary. I suspect he is Slovak
because he was Byzantine Catholic. His father ran a hunting lodge for
the emporer. If anyone has any information on either past or present
Germick's or Ivancho's, please contact me. I may also be able to point
someone to a relative named Homza who did some research, and I have come

Researching: BERES, ANDREYKOVICS
I am initiating my journey to discover my Hungarian / Slavic roots.
My Great Grandfather, Stephan Hyto Beres (b. 1872), emigrated from
either Pest or Abauj Megye in the late 1880's with two brothers. Stephan
and Andrew initially settled in the Bridgeport, Connecticut area. The
third brother settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area and contact was lost.
In or about 1891 my Great Grandmother, Barbara Theresa Andreykovics (b.
1875), emigrated from Abauj Megye to join Stephan and be married.
A family legend is that a Grandmother of Stephan was the daughter of a
count and somehow married below her societal status to Stephan's Grand
Father. It was decreed that all future male descendants from this
marriage carry the name "Hyto". I had believed that this translated into
an English equivalent of "farmhand". The legend continues that the Grand
Mother lived to the ripe old age of 106 and died as the result of a
fall. I am searching for any information on Stephan and Barbara or the third
lost brother that settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area.

Zoltan Kucsan or Kucsam his name. He was born March 19,1906 was supposed to be named after St. Joseph-name

got away with the heist. I am presuming that because of his success-he might have been look on as
a folk hero- anyway my grandfather was named Zoltan after him. I was told that the
robber fled to South America-dyed his beard & hair. Many years later the
government allowed him back into the country if he would reveal how he had

Researching: KRYNIE
I am looking for my ancestors. I was interested to see a village called Krynie listed in one
of the emails. The reason is that my surname is Krynie. I have been interested to know
where my family came from, but there seem to be no links anywhere. I am from South
Africa, and there are not many of us here with the surname Krynie, so I assume that the
family could not have been here for too many years. The problem is that most of my
grandparents are dead, so I cannot ask them for any info. If you have any info, it would be
greatly appreciated.
