Researching: POLASCEK, POLACEK, ESTOK, BACA, FECANIN, FACININ, FAJCININ, GUEHAR, FEDORENKO, CUPER, VASILENKO
I am researching the Polascek (Polacek) and Estok family histories. Other surnames are: Baca, Fecanin (Facinin, Fajcinin), Guehar, Fedorenko, Cuper, AND Vasilenko. I know most of these names are Carpatho-Rusyn. Is that the same as Ruthenian, or different? The towns I have located by records and help on America On Line are Hraboucek, and Visney Orlik. The family started when John and Charles Estok emigrated to the United States. He was apprenticed to German baker for his passage in Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh or Philadelphia where ever is closest to ship line. He and then met and married Anna Fajcinin (Fecanin) in Passaic New Jersey, who had been bound to a farmer's family for her passage. They had 2 children in Passaic, and moved to North Dakota to try farming with family unknown Surname, Sells and Suchor, then two children born there, went to Chicago Illinois, in 1913, stayed there, having 9 children until their deaths . She died at 47, he at over 65. He worked for the railroad, laborer. I have more info if anyone wants to contact me. Any help is appreciated. I am attempting to go back to Europe and verify births, emigration of Estok, Fecanin, Polascek and Fedorenko. All four Greek Catholic in Passaic, Pa for Estok/Fecanin and in Chicago, Ill. for Polascek/Fedorenko and then Russian Orthodox later in Chicago. Is there a listing of Greek Catholic or Carpatho Rusyn orthodox churches in these towns? Nisny Orlik, Chertez, and Hraboucek. Thanks for the help.

Researching: KOWAL, POLACXEK, PULIATCHK, (POLIACZEK, POLACIEK, PULATCHIEKA)
I am attempting to learn about my grandparents who left Kossow, Galicia, Austria in 1898 and traveled from Bremerhaven to the Hawaiian Islands on a ship named the H.J. Glade. They traveled with a number of people also from Kossow. I don't know where the town is specifically located or whether it continues to exist. Does anyone have any information on what might have caused the exodus of people from Kossow. My grandparents', who I know nothing about, names were Wawara Kowal and Michal Polacxek or Polaczek. After they were married they changed the name to Puliatchk. Thank you for any information you might have.

Researching: KUKULYA, KUKULA, ONUFRAK, GALISON, GALHSIN, FRANKOVA, MATIJKO
My mother's side of that family is Slovak. I have copies of my grandparent's birth certificates with official stamps from "Republika Ceskoslovenska" dated 31 October 1938 for my grandfather, and from "Slovensky Stat" dated 16 October 1940. grandfathers is written in Slovak, grandmothers is on a form in 3 languages, Slovak, Russian, Latin. My grandfather's name is: Andrej Kukulya, on birth certificate it is spelt: Kukula. He was born on Aug 21, 1890, father's name: Michal Kukulya, mother's name is confusing on the cert., this is what I think it is: "Maria dee're neb. Michala Onufrak. They were Greek Catholic and he was baptized in the village of Borov, I assume he lived close to the church. The birth certificate says: "Cirkvi Gr. Kath Arch Michaila in Borove" My grandmother's name is Anna Galison, on birth certificate it is spellled: Galhsin. She was born on Feb 15, 1893, father's name: Basilicus Galhsin, mother's name Julia Matijko. They were also Greek Catholic and she was baptized in the village of Vydran, I also assume she lived close to her church. The birth certificate says "Cirkvi Saucti Nicholis Arch in Vydran" My grandmother came to US at about 13, don't know what age my grandfather came over. assume this since my mother's oldest brother Michael Kukulya would have been 90, I figure date of immigration was 1906. My grandparents met and married here in New York City. My grandfather and his brothers worked on the Holland Tunnel and my grandmother worked for a wealthy family as a domestic housekeeper. I do know that my grandmother had relative still alive in 1960 in Vydran because I have a letter that was sent to my grandfather after my grandmother died, from her sister Paza Galhsin-Frankova. The letter has an address, quote: "Adresa: Paza Frankova, Vydran 17, okres: Humcnne" I wish that someone could translate the letter, and birth certificates, I'm sure they are full of hidden secrets. No one in my family can read Slovak, my mom can speak a little bit. Thanks in advance for whom ever will help, I'm anxious for a reply!
