Researching: TUSKO, TISHKO, TISKO, STOSH, STAS, STARSKA, EVANOIKA, EVANISKA, EVANYKA, MEHALKO, MEHOLICK, CHARNOGURSKY, PISARCIC, FRANKOSKI, FRANKOSKY, FRANKOVSKY
I'm researching any info re: Tusko (Tishko, Tuschko, Tisko) - Frankoski (Frankosky, Frankovsky) -Stosh (Stas, Starska) and Evanoika (Evaniska, Evanyka) families. As you can see, many of these names were probably spelled phonetically, so much is lost re: correct spelling and family research. My father, Andrew Tusko, age 14, came to the USA from the port of Bremen, Germany aboard the vessel Barbarossa, from Velka Frankova, Austro-Hungarian Empire. He arrived at Ellis Island on June 26, 1903. He travelled alone and boarded at the Frankoski (sp?) home in Troop, PA, according to census records. I believe this was a relative of his mother, as she was a Frankoski. He was born in 1888. His parents were Andrew and Mary Frankoski (sp?) Tusko. He had a brother John and I'm not sure of other siblings, but I'm sure there were some. He married my mother Mary Evanoika in 1914. Her parents were Michael and Sussie Starska Mehalko (George Meholick). Both parents were from Austro-Hungary. Michael's father was Gustav Evansika and mother was Maria Evansika. Sussie's father was Mathew (Madis Stash) Starska and mother was Ella (Elo Stach) Starska. Sussie's first husband George Meholick died in 1894. Please note the many variations of (name) spellings. These were gleaned from census, marriage, naturalization, and other documents. If you can offer any info, regarding any part of this large family, I would appreciate it. I have a large amount of info, but with many gaps. My parents are deceased. They lived their entire lives in the Troop, Dunmore, Richmondale, Vandling, PA area. (northeastern PA). I need any information re: Velka Frankova, Slovakia. Most of my fathers information starts upon my fathers arrival in the USA. Perhaps someone knowing of the Tusko, Tishko, Frankoski, Frankovski etc. families still living in or near Velka Frankova. I know there is family in this region. Also any info on Charnogursky and Pisarcic (sp?). These are also relatives and lived in Dunmore, PA and Pisarcic in Simpson, PA. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and for any help anyone may have.

Researching: RESCHAK, RESZCZAK, NOVAK
Searching for my European roots. My grandfather Martin Joseph Reschak, spoke Slovak and verbally told me that he was born on October 19, 1875, to Joseph and Sophie, in the Fratre-Matre Mountains, in a small village called Neupurciuis, Austria-Hungarian Empire. Can someone help me locate this village? He spent his childhood in Nisny Lapse, Austria-Hungary (currently within Polish borders), about 10 miles south east of Nowy Targ, Poland. He emigrated from Bremen, Germany arriving in New York on September 15, 1893. He married Mary Agnes Novak, in Pittston, PA, in 1900. Mary Novak came from Nowy Targ, Poland in 1900. All official U.S. papers (Immigration, Naturalization, Census, Marriage/Death Certificates, Social Security) list Martin's surname as RESCHAK and place of birth as Austria or Austria-Hungary. A 1910 U.S. Census phonetically lists surname as "Restchalk." Has my surname been "Americanized" and if so, from what? In Polish-Catholic Grade Schools, the nuns spelled my surname as Reszczak, but I have been unable to trace back either Reschak or Reszczak to the Slovak Republic or Poland. I would like any advice on what to do next to locate Martin Reschak's birthplace and any siblings he may have had and any relatives who may still be in the Slovak Republic or Poland.

Researching: LAPOS, JURASEK, YURASEK, HRINDA, MALATAK
Searching for Lapos, Jurasek or Yurasek, Hrinda, and Malatak families. My grandfather came to the US from Fintce in eastern Slovakia in 1895. I have been to Fintce but the village had many people with his surname Lapos. How does one go about determining which ones are my relatives. The same was true in Teriakovce for my grandmothers maiden name Jurasek.

Researching: KOVALAK, HAVRILA, ADAM
My ancestors came from Eastern Slovakia and are Carpo-Rusyn. The Kovalaks and Havrilas are from the village of Circ, near Bardejov in Stara Lubovna. My Grandmother Adam was actually from Southern Poland, but only 10 to 15 miles north of the Poprad River that divides Slovakia and Poland. My great grandfather Mikulas Kovalak came to Punxatawney, Pennsylvania in 1885 and soon married Anna Havrila, also of Circ. They had 14 children, mostly girls. Their son George, born 1906, was my grandfather. He moved to Detroit in 1930 and married Mary Adam, of the village in South Poland of which I do not know. They had four children, of which one is my father, Tom Kovalak, born in 1941 in Detroit. I was born in Detroit in 1968. I am in search of pertinent information on my ancestors. Especially interested in photos or documents. However, stories would be good too! 616-445-8550.
