Passing the Bridal Shoes
![]()
Following the Czech Wedding Song or towards the end of the wedding reception, the bride's veil and the groom's and/or bride's shoes are carried around the hall by the best man and maid of honor and the guests could put in a dollar or more for the honeymoon trip.
Most all the Czech-Tex country weddings have the shoe tradition.
You can auction the shoe, trying to get the total money way up, or on the more sedate side the best man can pass the bride's shoe around for people put money in.
Some wedding pass both the groom's and the bride's shoe around.
A Czech bride remembers...
My shoe was passed around at our wedding reception over 35 years ago and netted my husband and myself over $100, fueled mostly by a $50 bill placed there by one of my uncles.
Looking back, I guess that wasn't so much the money - the $100 that is, however, it was so appreciated.
And it was fun!
