Rusin Mock Weddings

Wedding re-enactments or mock wedding were very popular activities for church groups in the 1930's.

The groups would do a re-enactment of a Rusin wedding complete with authentic Rusin wedding dress. The mock wedding above was done in 1935 at Saint Nicholas Greek (Byzantine) Catholic Church in Youngstown, Ohio.

Members of the church were mostly from eastern Slovakia so the costume of the performers would be similar to that found in Rusin villages in eastern Slovakia like Porac and Slovinky.

The play must have been a success as they performed "Blazov Wedding" shown in the photo below in 1937.
