Christmas in the Carpatho-Rusyn Tradition

Feast of Theophany - January 6

Blessing of a Home

It is a tradition to have your home blessed by the parish priest following the Feast of Theophany using the holy water blessed on the feast. The text of the blessing follows:

We fervently implore You, O Almighty God, in behalf of this house, those who dwell in it, and all it contains:

Bless and sanctify it, and cause every kind of goodness to multiply in it. Oh Lord, grant to your servants an abundance of the dew of heaven and the bounties of earth, and through your mercy, bring all their desires to good conclusion.

Deign to bless and sanctify this home by your entrance, as you blessed the home of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Let the angel reflecting your glory dwell also within the walls of this house, protecting those who live in it.

For you are a merciful God who loves mankind, and we glorify You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, ( Make Sign of Cross ) now and ever, and forever.
